ෆ Naivety Attracts The Fox. Rin sat alone at one of the oak tables, fingers laced beneath his chin as he skimmed over an old book. His gaze analyzing and studying the patterns behind the author's writing.

It was quiet, alone, just the way he liked... But then—.

"Do you ever wonder if books breath?"

He blinked once, slowly. The sentence was so absurd, he thought that he had misheard.

Turning his head, he found a girl standing near the bookshelves, holding a thick book in her arms, head tilted with innocent curiosity.

Rin raised an eyebrow, offering a pleasant smile, the same mask he wore around others. "I'm sorry, what was that?"

[F/n] closed the book and stepped closer, uninvited, plopping herself into a chair across from Rin with all the grace of a child entering a storyboard.

"Books, I always thought they kind of breathe, you know? Like, when you open one—woosh!—and it feels like they exhale," she said demonstrating it with the book she's holding.

Rin paused, staring at her. There was no look of mischief in her eyes, no sarcasm or irony. Just... Legitimate sincerity.

He laughed softly, "that's certainly... Imaginative. I've never thought of it that way."

"Oh! Sorry. You look like you were in deep thought. I hope I didn't interrupt world domination or anything."

Rin blinked again. She was serious.

He leaned forward, his chin rested on his hand, a polite smile on his face. "Not at all, though if I were to plan world domination, you might've just compromised the entire operation."

Her eyes widened "oh-... Sorry, I didn't mean to ruin it. Should I... Pretend I didn't hear anything..?"

Rin chuckled. She's ridiculous.

But there was something odly entertaining about her absurdity. Not much talked to him like this. He's either admired or feared, trying to be on his good side. That or they're trying to outplay him.

But this girl? She thought he was a supervillain reading war manuals in the library, still, she chose to sit across from him.

[F/n] stared at the page in front of him upside–down. "What's that about?"

He glanced down. "Strategy. It's about a breakdown of phycological response under pressure."

"Whoa... Sounds intense. I read a cookbook once that said cinnamon reduces stress. That counts, right?"

Rin's mouth twitched into a real smile—awkward, but amused. "You're quite curious, aren't you?"

"Mhmm! People tell me that a lot. They also say I'm 'slow', but I think that just means I enjoy life at a peaceful pace."

Rin studied her for a moment, his smile soothed into something softer.

She's naive, dense, trusting... Completely unaware of how much danger the academy holds. She was the kind of person people like Rin exploited for sport. And yet...

"...You should be careful," he hummed, his tone gentle, "this academu isn't forgiving to people like you."

She tilted her head, "ehh..? People like me?"

He gave her a mock-sweet smile. "The kind who mistake predators for friendly faces."

[F/n] smiled, resting her chin on her hands, "welp, you seem nice enough! Even if you're a predator."

Rin stared at her, a smile still on his face.

For the first time in a long while, Rin Obami was caught off guard. And for some reason... He didn't mind it.
