The most critically endangered of the great whales is the North Atlantic Right Whale.
At the surface, this whale is identified by its V-shaped blow. They spend time in Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary but laws prohibit close approaches so whale watch vessels avoid them; if boating, please stay at least 500 yards away from the animal.
