his smile melts into a deeply troubled line as she reaches for leon like the earth is shaking beneath them.     some days,  it’s as if simone left her voice back on the ship.     she stumbles with the knowledge of earth’s ruin,  he sees it,  but her ache has always been a lonely one   ---   until now.     he’s a soldier for her in this moment,  hushing her with a sad shake of his head and tugging her close.     wrapping his arms around her thinner frame and letting her release what ails her while the moon watches over them.     ‘     we’ll make them proud,‘     he whispers into the endless night.     ‘     we’ll build something meaningful here.     ‘

‘     not worried about that,      ‘      he tells her,  now standing at her side.   leon’s gaze soon finds the moon,  sanctum washed with its glow.   for now,   this is their home.     the world they left behind is dust,  a difficult thing to accept,  but it’s also motivating   —   they have a mission.   they can’t sit in their sorrow.         ‘    i'm worried about you isolating yourself.     ‘

          a half smile cuts into his cheek,     &      he lets out an amused laugh, leaning against the wall, bottle of water in his hand as he takes a quick swig. he lowers it, the back of his hand wiping against his lips to get some stray drops of water off, eyes sparkling as his gaze stays on robin.      “      what, you get the upper hand a few times,     &      now you’re the best ?      ”        his tone is enitrely joking as he screws the top back on to the water bottle, tossing it back to its spot on the other side of the room.      “       come on, robi. round four. i’ll beat you this time.      ”

he laughs, his arm wrapping around gabi as her head rest on her chest. troy smiles, his hand moving up to run through her hair for a moment. as much as he’d rather lay there with her, his eyes dart over to the clock nearby to check the time.     “     but gabs, don’t you have class soon ?     ”     his words come out soft   &   quiet, almost reluctant.     “     you’re not really a class skipper.     ”
