Righteous Jams June 17, 2005 Brick DAV Brick, NJ
Release of the Day: RIGHTEOUS JAMS - "Business as Usual" (Abacus/Lockin' Out) - After years in the dark, "Business as Usual" has finally surfaced on the digital streaming services. Although not a classic or even the band's best output, its omission was an unfortunate hole into the Boston area hardcore scene in the early-to-mid 2000s. While their shoot-it-straight-into-the-sun LP "Rage of Discipline" caught a world of attention, "Business as Usual" stumbled as being perhaps too meticulous in delivering its angry output. The flair of fun of danger that lurked across all of "Rage of Discipline" never arrived on this one. Less bounce in their step, more midtempo crunch with no obvious path. The distinctive yelp/barking of the lead vocals still set the band apart, and "You Have Issues" a timeless ode for setting out some personal distance. It could have been greater but as the wise band once noted, "Bust It!"
Righteous Jams - “rage of discipline”... a hard as fuck fusion of east coast hardcore, rock n roll, and with all the lyrical stylings of the best hip hop you’ve ever heard. I heard @rickrubin explain the difference between hip hop and prior music was that the melody was replaced by the rhythms of the voice, and I feel like this record embodies that. There’s not a line on here you couldn’t tweet, and it’s totally pitable front to back. Get after it and get pumped. #righteousjams #hxc #seriouspitters (at Schertz, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/CI10VpjHb7u/?igshid=georqc56okk7
