“THE FUTURE OF DETROIT”

“They tried to bury us. They didn’t know we were seeds.” Adapted from a 1978 Greek poem, these lines have reached out and touch audiences around the world, becoming a common rallying cry at the @Fams2gether protests of July, 2018. A month later New Orleans activist, artist, and filmmaker Brandan Odums, aka BMike, was in Detroit for @MuralsInTheMarket and partnered with photographer Rick Williams on this powerful new application of the idea. Williams spotted young Evan with his mother at the @1xRun welcome dinner for the event and thought he would be “the perfect embodiment of the theme.” With Evan’s permission Williams and BMike went to work and within a few days this poignant Adelaide St statement was ready to share with Detroit and the world. @rickwlms/ @bmike2c/
