5. How do you know when you’re finished writing a fic? At what point do you call it done?

It depends. I have some fics where I know the ending from the beginning and the rest of the fic is basically just the journey to that point. For other fics I usually figure it out during the writing process, but I think it's mostly a vibe thing for me, unless I should really have a very detailed, story-focused plan where I decide that the story I wanted to tell with it is over. But mostly it is part of the process for me.

8. Tell us your shortest and longest titles of all time.

I'm just going with my AO3 history here (let's ignore the sins of my youth please), so if we talk about only letters my shortest title is "The Call" but if we talk words it's "Shattered".

And the longest title so far is "Footsteps in the Rain" if I counted the letters correctly.

18. If you have noticed themes emerging in your writing, what are they? What broad themes and topics do you enjoy exploring?

This... is a very good question. Lately I've been concentrating on good vibes and fluff and unbelievably (for me) crack in my fics, but I actually prefer to explore dark topics. Complex relationships (romantic, friendships, family), toxic relationships, mental health topics, death and grief. The darkness in life and humans and how it influences the world around them. But I do like to have some light and hope in between even if it might be crushed in the end. Which reminds me that I really need to write more angst.

25. Someone you know outside of fandom has heard that you’re a writer. “I’d like to read something of yours!” they say with sincere enthusiasm. “Where can I find it?” What’s your answer?

3. Tell us about a headcanon you invented for a fic.

I don't think I've ever invented a headcanon for a fic, expect maybe that Masumi would make an awesome pirate captain and womanizer. I have tons of headcanons (as you know), but they usually already exist before I start a fic. But who knows, maybe I'll invent one in the future. :D

12. Do you write in order, jump around the draft, or a mix? Something else?

Mostly a mix and it also depends on the lenght of the fic. I usually prefer to write fics in order, especially oneshots and "short" projects. But with multi-chaptered fics I tend to jump a lot and might even work on more than one chapter at the same time. One example for that is the soulmark!AU, I actually work on 3 different drafts for that one right now, one for chapter 3, one for chapter 4 and one where I just collect ideas and future scenes.

27. Share a random sentence from a WIP. The less context, the better. Be confusing.

I’d comment more if my brain would cooperate but overall I just wanted to let you know that your writing is amazing and as much as PHM has a ton of angst in its core, soft fics like this with its slice of life pacing is cherished💛

As someone who’s aroace and still figuring out what it means for relationships, stories with character portrayals like what you’ve done are comforting to the soul

Stratt is a menace at heart, she has a masterful poker face and too much resources for her own good, but she is fundamentally a good person, her intentions are for the best and she is keenly aware of her fallibility as a person, and willing to make amends when she does fuck up

Sailors is very close to my heart for specifically this reason, it's the slowest pace fic I've ever written and my first slice-of-life, and I'm having so much fun unfurling the petals of their dynamic, figuring out exactly how grace and stratt interact, how they'd work in another life. That's the crux of it all, isn't it? Project Hail Mary is all about another life, what could've been, the potential both for the better and the worse.

I like this what if, I like the softness, the chance for safe exploration they both afford each other. I'm also aroace, I resonate a lot with how Grace experiences his sexuality and I'm so pleased that other people on the spectrum have done the same, can see themselves within my stories. To realise you're worthy of love and devotion, even if it's in a form that society doesn't recognise, is beautiful

I am the worlds biggest fan of OCs, I love making a world feel lived in and large, and it's not always possible to shoehorn other canon characters into every role. Jas is very dear to my heart and their speech patterns were SO fun to write, I love making all my characters abnormal as possible.

Sailors is also such a nice change of pace to a lot of stuff I write - low stakes, gentle pace fluff, sweet and soft and and vulnerable in a way that drives me insane.

Stratt is possibly the more unhinged of the two, if only because she has the resources to do so. She took one look at this wet cat of a scientist and said if anything happens to Grace I'm nuking Antarctica and then myself, he lives rent free in her mind.

I have a silly vision in my head of Carl and Stratt having a spa day and gossiping together - he at the very least is aware how obsessive she's gotten over him, and is in full support of it. She does have other friends, but I don't imagine she's told them a lot about Grace. Not until she's secure in his presence and that he won't leave her when he realises she's serious about not being able to give him the romantic and sexual aspect of a relationship she imagines he expects. Even though she does believe him that he doesn't need it, there's still a part of her that holds back, that just can't accept that after so long of being alone, she might finally be able to share her life with someone who understands

I giggle thinking about her friends getting a wedding invitation months down the line and leaving voicemails like "EVA WHY THE FUCKKK DIDNT YOU TELL US YOU WERE DATING SOMEONE??? I CANT BELIEVE YOU KEPT US IN THE DARK UNTIL YOU'RE MARRYING HIM?? GIRL PICK UP THE PHONE NOW I NEED TO YELL AT YOU LIVE"

I am so excited for Strattland Christmas it's going to be the cutest thing EVER, I have things planned for it already and I'm still plotting out how the chapter is gonna go. They are gonna be the cutiest patooties to ever live and I am here for it. Writing Christmas fluff in july lets GOOOO
