what's your favorite rhod moment ?
i have been thinking about this aaaallll day because i just couldn't answer this last night when i received it and well... it is really hard to have a definitive favourite rhod moment! so here's a little top 5 (in no particular order) of rhod moments i really, really love. 1) honestly most of his radio show shenanigans are my favourite, but the one that made me laugh hardest probably was that one time rhod invited a complete stranger he met the night before in a bar at edinburgh fringe to his live radio show. i cut some of the bits where rhod and lloyd talk about it in a post before, but you don't understand: there's like one and a half hour of lead time where they joke about it and rhod gets increasingly more anxious about whether or not he fucked up by getting himself into this. it's just. it was such a long lead up and then the guest really held his own and just absolutely roasted rhod lmao. Tommy: Rhod, can I be honest with you? You know why you're out of touch? Rhod: Why? Tommy: Because you meet people, and then the next day, you forget all about them. Lloyd: It's your groundhog day approach to, you know, your social occasions.
(2 his fresco dining in cardiff bit. i'm not really into his stand-up but whenever i think about "i tried to have a twix in a bus stop in wales a few years ago, it was too wet to eat" i just laugh sjkfsdfsd
(3 the care worker episode of work experience. it's the perfect balance of funny and touching. i really love seeing rhod get attached so quickly to the elderly people in the home and how genuinely touched and affected he seems by the couple days he got to spend with them. imho a great watch for people who know rhod as a shouty guy and not so much as the softie he is.
(4 the episode of most dangerous roads with angela barnes. look, i'm writing fic about his episode with greg, but the one with angela is just hilarious and comfort material to me. it's rhod's first Big Thing he does since recovering from cancer and his chemistry with angela is just perfect. the concrete bits. the "can i remind you we're both deaf?". angela becoming a thrill seeker while rhod gets more and more worried. angela saying rhod would be a good dad and rhod going silent on her in a :| way because the subject is difficult to talk about for him. their general banter and chatter, sigh. <3 (5 rhod and greg on bbc radio 2. pure. chaos. funniest two hours of your life. it's rhod's general "no one is listening to this" shtick except they are on bbc radio 2 and people will be listening. i love the traffic lady calling out their school boy behaviour. they are ridiculous and childish and gigglish and having so much fun and it's infectious to listen to. and bonus, rhod on the gaby roslin podcast! he's so honest and open on that podcast and it's such a joy to listen to. it's incredible how much he's grown into being able to self-reflect and analyse his past actions & in general i admire how he's found happiness for himself. <3

picsen interrupting rhod recording a 'thank you' message ππ₯Ί
level 1: rhod is insane
level 2: actually βοΈ rhod is a profoundly neurodivergent individual with pretty severe social anxiety at times, anxiety around ordering and eating food, adhd that wasn't diagnosed until his 50s, decades spent accidentally inventing coping mechanisms from scratch, and he's probably somewhere on the autism spectrum as well (though not diagnosed)
level 3: all of which is true. and he's also kind of a freak
