Uprising fans have definitely been the most Vocal fans in the tags of that poll so far by a long shot so I think you're onto something with you own tags lol
Oh for sure, haha. I do love Uprising, but I don't think I was as emotionally moved by it (outside of it's stunning art direction) compared to a lot of my lovely friends. The tragedy of the cancellation does warrant loving it so vocally though!

9. Were there any old favorites that you re-visted?
I usually rewatch Velvet Goldmine (1998) about once a year, but I ended up watching it 2-3 times this past fall! It's one of my favorite films ever, and one of the few that I think is genuinely very well made AND means a lot to me. I rewatched Red vs Blue for the first time since 2022(?) for academic reasons (research for paper), which was absolutely wild. It's still very imperfect but so rich for research, haha.
Outside of media, I revisted learning risoprinting properly now! I'm much more confident with using the machine and assembling/binding zines after a year away from it!

22. What’s the best advice you received this year?
it's not advice per se, but during my study abroad which combined ecology and studio art practice, i got to spend a lot of time with fine arts students (very strange and unusual experience as an illustration student, highly recommend). my own uni really emphises having a glam, shiny, clean product part of making art, and i've gotten really tangled up in that mindset-- it's caused me a lot of unnecessary anxiety. (i'm paraphrasing this next part heavily so take this with a grain of salt.) one of our ecology lectures talked about the idea of reframing our human/western-centric approach to understanding the environment (using fungi & lichen as an example), specifically that death is not an end, birth is not a beginning. it's a cyclical process, not a linear operation. the idea of death (in ecology) as a process, something breaking down to build something else up in at levels of time we can't really comprehend, really affected me. we had to apply our new ecological knowledge (we did field stuff too ofc) to our studio practice, and it really moved me to focus more on the philosophical ("fine arts") part of my non-fine arts practice. not only that, but the idea of thinking of art as cyclical rather than linear (rejecting the clean product idea my uni pushes) has made me care about what i make so much more. so... yea lol, advice in the way i abstractly interpreted it.
i haven't delved enough into the book just yet to confirm, but i believe Life Everlasting: The Animal Way Of Death by Bernd Heinrich touches upon this idea (death as process)!
