Truly alarming 😓🤯 The marine conservation organization @OceansAsia has calculated that in 2020 the oceans have received 1.56 billion face masks, representing extra pollution of more than 5,000 additional tons of plastic. The most worrying thing is that this waste will take up to 450 years to decompose into small microplastics, which would negatively impact the ecosystem. According to OceansAsia, plastic pollution kills about 100,000 marine mammals and turtles, more than a million seabirds, and even more fish and invertebrates each year.
