At the end of her podcasts, Brené Brown asks her guests what is their most memorable concert. I am often at all loss for this, since I really haven’t been to that many concerts, though I’ve definitely been fortunate to see a few mega classic bands play. Seeing this image, I realized my most memorable concert may also be the worst concert I’ve ever attended: The Ramones were booked at my university’s spring fling weekend (aka Brandeis’ Bronstein Weekend), which, it so happens, would’ve occurred right around this time in April. Now, don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the Ramones a lot. Yet, at this particular concert the sound system was so terrible, and they were so wrecked on lord knows what, that it was like listening to a ginormous a.m. radio wall of static produced by Phil Spector on a psychotic rampage. Even as a testosterone-infused 20 year old with a developmentally challenged pre-frontal cortex, I had enough presence of mind to say to my friend, “Fuck this, let’s get the hell out of here!“ Somehow, there is a beautiful synchronicity here in that today is #420.
