A few weeks ago I attended a dinner party not far from this site in "midcentury modern" Reston. To the developer's credit, Reston's core has aged quite well, although a fair amount of repair on the more than half century old structures is ongoing. When it was built, Reston was viewed as a kind of garden city in the Ebeneezer Howard mold. It has subsequently grown into a fairly ordinary upper-middle income suburb, though it does have an impressive amount of green space and is slightly more coherent than nearby clusters in Fairfax County. It is actually possible to safely walk or bicycle between parks, shops, and houses, something not true in most of Washington, DC's auto-centric outer suburbs.
