I t w a s n ' t o f t e n, if ever, that Usui lost track of a student, but then again -- it wasn't often they ran away on him either. This kid in particular was reluctant from the start, constantly acting up and disrupting lessons whenever the opportunity presented itself. Usui gathered he hadn't taken kindly to the change, but that was understandable. He tried to reason that this kid had every right to lash out, even if it was frustrating. When he ran off, Usui took off down the street after him. It was always clear of foot traffic around the school, but once they made it to the main street, the kid got lost in a sea of people. With only one functional eye, it was hard to distinguish him from anyone else, so all he had to go on was the direction he ran in.
As he passed, he pushed through crowds uttering panicked apologies along the way. This was no good. It was well past class time, and eventually people were going to start worrying. What would his parents think? More importantly, what would those who oversaw his classes thin -- "Aha!" Usui caught onto a head of chocolate brown hair, and a familiar striped shirt. Got you. The glanced over his shoulder, then ducked into a nearby restaurant, apparently not noticing he'd been spotted. Following close behind, Usui rushed inside behind him and began looking around, underneath empty tables, near the corners. He probably escaped to the bathroom. He grit his teeth together. His heart hammered in his chest. What was he going to do if something happened to this kid?
When he focused forward again, he noticed he'd almost hit someone -- a waiter, more importantly, and when awareness sparked that he could have caused a disaster by not paying attention, he jumped back and held his hands up, "I'm sorry! I -- " he paused, slowly lowering his hands. An idea struck him. "Um listen, you haven't seen a kid in a striped shirt running through here, have you? Around this tall?" He motioned just above his own shoulder. "Really skinny, and really angry-looking?"
“He’s a student of mine, and he took off on me.”
