@resisteenceĀ· / &Ā· Jake Ā· * ā”
ā Today, ā ā she said, calm and clear like this was any other day, ā ā I went to the farmerās market, smiled at a toddler, and bought a loaf of sourdough that I absolutely plan to eat like a functioning person. ā
A pause. A breath. Barely perceptible tension behind her eyes.
ā Then I lit a candle and did yoga. No weird, creepy, unexplainable things happened. Nothing flickered, nothing hummed, nothing tried to interface with my brain. And I absolutely did not watch a lizard turn into a boy. Nope. Totally normal Tuesday. ā
She didnāt blink either. Her tone didnāt shift. Not even a twitch to suggest she was joking.
Farmerās market. Candle. Yoga.
ā If anybody asks, I didnāt see anything, I donāt know anything. ā
And sheās absolutely planning to ask what the hell she just witnessed ā eventually. Once her brain finishes buffering and her skin stops crawling. But for now? Sheās nodding along with the boy like any of this makes sense.

jake gets like this, sometimes. especially when they've been bought together. it should be no surprise to the two twenty year olds that eventually, this would happen -- and more often, too. what did mags and esra say ? leave him alone. let jake battle his demons. mags gives him food, sometimes, or at least leaves it there. but when finnick slowly enters jake's room in the tribute center, the meal mags had placed out hours ago was untouched.
finnick would take it upon himself, then, to see to him. he'd already ordered the avox to start a bath. something lukewarm, to not shock the system. now it was just about getting him there.
he approaches jake carefully, turning on the bedside table lamp as he goes, though he knows the other victor is not going to move anytime soon. he talks to him. jake would do the same, if the roles were reversed. " i had an avox start a bath for you. come on. it'll help. " at least, he hopes it will. finnick tugs jake up, who doesn't make much of a sound, and pulls him along to his private ensuite bathroom. and then, jake stands there while finnick gently undresses him. he's careful not to look, as best as he can.
it doesn't matter. they've seen each other in every state imaginable.
still, privacy is something he himself takes seriously, so why wouldn't jake ? he moves him to the water, settles him down underneath opaque suds and warm soap. " see ? better. " finnick isn't sure if jake wants him to stay, but he settles on the edge of the bathtub, just in case.

Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā ways to talk about it
Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā Ā This whole friendship thing was new to Sebastian. To be around someone that wasn't meticulously hand-picked by his father. To be around someone that could actually care about him as an individual and not have some ulterior motive? Such a mind boggling concept for the sheltered boy who was totally oblivious to the wings he was able to spread.
Not really knowing where to put hands, he was quick to lean against his yellow truck and use his elbow to prop himself up, holding onto the sleeves of his slightly too big Air Force jacket to keep bruised arms hidden.
"It's fine. Totally whatever." Translation: This sort of thing had been happening long enough as it was, so why would he try and do anything about it now?

i wasn't annoyed at all. not one bit. Ā Ā Ā YEAH, THAT'S TYPICAL JAKE. modest and true and brave and bold. a modern clark kent if he got some hair dye and no glasses - those girls really can't see past that? she wonders if clark would be able to handle half of what they do on a daily basis. the ends of her mouth twitch, a flinch of a smile on her face gone faster than it was there to begin with. if rachel was a raging volcano, leaving nothing but ash and destruction in her wake, jake is the calming sea. the thing sailors look for in the midst of a storm, the lighthouse in the storm of their fighting. she's tired. their group .. they've been through a lot together. sometimes, she forgets to be a person and not a warrior. the lines blur together that she loses herself within it. Ā and it's sweet, sometimes, he much he seems to care about others ā it's not that rachel doesn't. but ever one track - minded, and the collateral damage of others is not usually on the forefront of her mind most of the time. she kicks a rock as they walk, nails digging into the palms of her hands where they rest in her hoodie pocket. Ā they're two off - kilter patterns in the same room. āright,ā she's scoffs at him, her head shaking, blonde strands falling into her line of vision.Ā
āyou don't have to be ā ā nice? that's the word she's looking for, but it sounds silly. rachel isn't a mean girl. not entirely unintentionally, sometimes, maybe, she thinks. Ā a thick swallow, the night air making her feel like she's going to choke on words. ālike that. i'm not tobias or whoever.ā it's not meant to be a dig ā something to show jake that she can tell it to her straight, entirely laid out floor plans of that room to get the same end - result. he tells her to jump, she'll give him a quip and maybe even a few fighting words, but she'll do it anyway. she'll do it because it's jake. the boulders on his shoulders are heavier than hers. she can't imagine, the deep rooted aspects of a leader are better on him than her, but it doesn't make the guilt she feels go away. maybe he knows this - she's not the wordy type, not when her stomach feels weird and she wants to kind of crawl into bed. and she feels entirely annoyed, as if she's doing something wrong by reaching out. ālike that. you can be annoyed, if you want to. not gonna fault you for that.ā he's human, too.Ā

āIām so tired⦠but thereās no way Iām going back to sleep after that.ā
ā bit dramatic . ā five comments , hitching his pants && taking a seat next to @resisteence , pushing his hair from his face , he then looks him up && down a brow raised before he then looks out . lips thinning . five considers for a moment && then flexing his metal fingers , he reaches into his overcoat pocket && pulls out a silver hipflask . one that he carries to keep him satiated when he has his own bad dreams . hell - he's been there . it sucks . to feel like the dreams are pulling you down && causing you to drown , forcing their way into your lungs && -
five clears his throat , forcing the memories away && then offers the hipflask to the other . ā this has helped me a bunch of times . ā he says . ā that or i can blink && get you some sleeping pills from the pharmacy . ā
a closed starter for @resisteence.
steveĀ didn'tĀ takeĀ NOTES.Ā heĀ passedĀ themĀ toĀ cuteĀ girlsĀ whoĀ stoleĀ glancesĀ atĀ himĀ fromĀ behindĀ theirĀ hair.Ā heĀ staredĀ blanklyĀ atĀ theĀ boardĀ untilĀ holographicĀ shapesĀ startedĀ dancingĀ inĀ frontĀ ofĀ hisĀ eyesight.Ā atĀ most,Ā heĀ doodled!Ā soĀ whenĀ harringtonĀ openedĀ hisĀ textbookĀ toĀ theĀ correspondingĀ page,Ā crackedĀ theĀ spinĀ ofĀ hisĀ binderĀ andĀ smoothedĀ hisĀ handĀ overĀ theĀ freshĀ sheetĀ ofĀ paperĀ andĀ tookĀ notesĀ thatĀ day,Ā heĀ gotĀ moreĀ thanĀ aĀ fewĀ looks.Ā notĀ hisĀ usualĀ admiringĀ orĀ jealousĀ kindĀ either.Ā somethingĀ must'veĀ beenĀ WRONGĀ withĀ harringtonĀ ifĀ heĀ wasĀ actuallyĀ payingĀ attentionĀ inĀ class.Ā itĀ wasn'tĀ likeĀ itĀ wasĀ aĀ damagingĀ blowĀ toĀ hisĀ reputationĀ orĀ anything.Ā someoneĀ startedĀ whisperingĀ thatĀ heĀ must'veĀ beenĀ tryingĀ toĀ impressĀ someĀ girlĀ withĀ hisĀ aptitudeĀ forĀ learning.Ā itĀ didn'tĀ takeĀ thatĀ longĀ forĀ everyoneĀ toĀ turnĀ theirĀ headsĀ awayĀ andĀ carryĀ onĀ asĀ usual.Ā
steveĀ wasn'tĀ stupid,Ā though.Ā heĀ didn'tĀ pushĀ hisĀ luckĀ byĀ raisingĀ hisĀ handĀ ifĀ heĀ didn'tĀ quiteĀ understandĀ aĀ section,Ā orĀ ifĀ heĀ wasĀ behindĀ aĀ coupleĀ ofĀ sentencesĀ whileĀ tryingĀ toĀ keepĀ upĀ withĀ theĀ teacher.Ā thatĀ wouldĀ beĀ socialĀ suicide.Ā craningĀ hisĀ neck,Ā heĀ peakedĀ ontoĀ theĀ pagesĀ ofĀ theĀ otherĀ classĀ nerdsĀ andĀ relatedĀ throughĀ morseĀ codeĀ byĀ tappingĀ hisĀ pageĀ whatĀ partsĀ heĀ missed.Ā they'dĀ hesitateĀ butĀ ultimatelyĀ raiseĀ theirĀ bindersĀ forĀ himĀ toĀ getĀ aĀ quickĀ look.Ā itĀ wasn'tĀ likeĀ thisĀ wasĀ aĀ testĀ orĀ anything,Ā soĀ whatĀ wasĀ theĀ harmĀ inĀ lettingĀ himĀ copy?Ā steveĀ hadĀ toĀ admit,Ā itĀ madeĀ theĀ classĀ goĀ byĀ aĀ lotĀ fasterĀ thanĀ goofingĀ aroundĀ allĀ period.Ā whenĀ theĀ bellĀ rang,Ā heĀ filedĀ intoĀ theĀ hallĀ withĀ theĀ massesĀ andĀ ranĀ SMACKĀ intoĀ jake'sĀ chest.Ā āĀ hey,Ā man!Ā iĀ wasĀ aboutĀ toĀ sendĀ outĀ theĀ searchĀ party.Ā gotĀ yourĀ notesĀ fromĀ class,Ā āĀ heĀ pressedĀ theĀ notebookĀ towardsĀ theĀ otherĀ guy.Ā āĀ can'tĀ havingĀ youĀ missĀ outĀ beforeĀ theĀ BIGĀ TESTĀ onĀ friday.Ā itĀ shouldĀ beĀ outlawedĀ toĀ examineĀ usĀ rightĀ beforeĀ theĀ weekend,Ā butĀ whatever,Ā right?Ā iĀ don'tĀ makeĀ theĀ rules.Ā ā
whileĀ heĀ rambled,Ā hisĀ brownĀ eyesĀ deliveredĀ aĀ onceĀ over.Ā rumorsĀ wereĀ anĀ epidemicĀ inĀ aĀ smallĀ town.Ā highĀ schoolĀ wasĀ aĀ millionĀ timesĀ worse.Ā mostĀ ofĀ theirĀ classmatesĀ andĀ someĀ ofĀ theĀ teachersĀ hadĀ givenĀ upĀ onĀ jakeĀ pullingĀ through.Ā talkĀ ofĀ himĀ disappearingĀ allĀ theĀ time,Ā hangingĀ outĀ withĀ theĀ wrongĀ elementā¦Ā kidĀ wasĀ hopeless.Ā usually,Ā steveĀ didn'tĀ payĀ attentionĀ toĀ allĀ thatĀ garbageĀ untilĀ heĀ knewĀ theĀ facts.Ā heĀ sawĀ everydayĀ justĀ howĀ harmfulĀ wordĀ ofĀ mouthĀ couldĀ beĀ onĀ aĀ person.Ā itĀ would'veĀ beenĀ lameĀ toĀ cornerĀ jakeĀ andĀ demandĀ toĀ knowĀ theĀ TRUTH,Ā soĀ heĀ figuredĀ he'dĀ helpĀ himĀ outĀ byĀ keepingĀ upĀ withĀ classwork.Ā itĀ wasĀ theĀ leastĀ heĀ couldĀ do,Ā andĀ heĀ wasn'tĀ usingĀ thatĀ timeĀ forĀ himself,Ā anyway.Ā academicallyĀ speaking.Ā steveĀ couldĀ flirtĀ withĀ hisĀ deskĀ neighborsĀ someĀ otherĀ time.Ā
