Go back to the visual diary.
How do your eyes travel around the things you have collected?
My eyes travel the page usually from left to right, top to bottom. But sometimes if I see something bright or a color combination I have not seen before, I jump to that and then go back to the beginning again. I look at each picture for a moment and take in the content, usually don't read small text unless the design seems like it has a meaning or might be representing something that might not be so clear at first sight.
What do you look at first?
When looking at a scrapbook there are so many different images, my eyes wander the page a lot, I think the first things that I see are the bright images, the ones that pop and have a lot of contrast.
Where is the contrast & what are you looking at?
For example in the poster from Stefan Hurleman, Al White blue poster, Braulio Amando set Blonde cover were Frank Ocean has on a motorcycle helmet, Moonlight second poster, Inception first movie poster, the Sean Wotherspoon Nike air max 1/97 shoes and I could go on and on.

Graphic designers that interest you
How do they use visual language?
What about the work do you admire?
What can you take from their work? Any notes?
Some of the last designers & graphic designers & artists work that I have been following are Virgil Abloh, Saul bass, Stefan Hurleman, Venus Mansion, Ares Pedroil, Nicholas Little & many more.
Even though I would like to talk about all of them I think it is better that I pick 3 and talk about them more in depth.
Ares Pedroli Link
He uses bright colors to make his designs catch your eye, mixed with B&W images. The designs are often very minimal not too many components and simple graphics, but the use of color makes them seem more complex and pop out at you. (visual illusions with text)
I really like how he uses bright colors and contrast them with dark. It is also very intriguing how he plays with text in both simple ways & more complicated ways turning it into a sort of visual illusion.
How he uses simple components and color to make visually stimulating designs. (use of materials, visual effects.)
Saul Bass Link
Saul uses clever use of type and imagery, made him an icon in graphic design. He was a true pioneer in the graphic design world, had a big impact on the movie screen and changed how people thought about graphic design. He always found a way to give his designs meaning and something people could connect together. His movie posters were not just posters they were telling you something about the movie if you knew it or not.
I enjoy how fun his designs are they are very diverse and span over many different subjects. I admire how he can create a world out of simple things.
There is so much to learn from his work it is hard to point out one single thing that I can take from it. It is everything from his use of type, imperfect color blocks & the hidden representations. For example The Man with the Golden Arm movie poster.
Stefan Hurleman Link
Stefan's designs are very bright even though he uses a lot of black. The contrasts between white and bright colors is maybe what makes it seem that they are so bright. I find his designs also very clean, his use of shapes and sharp lettering is strong, type comes second to the art and simple imperfect make the art even more perfect or real.
I love the grainy or somehow washed effect he has on some of his work, that everything is so clean cut but by adding that one effect the hole design changes.
I will definitely take from his work how he uses shapes and manipulates type & fonts. Also the color pop that happens when he puts together black elements with white and bright colors. The simplicity of the elements in the design that make it seem comlex.

What sort of items have you collected so far? What was it that made you want to keep these items?

Identify the software I have to use for the 3 tasks.
Fro graphic design I would use Illustrator.
For photo manipulation, I would use photoshop & Lightroom.
For desktop publishing, I would probably also use Illustrator because I know it the best.
How familiar am i with them?
I know some of the basics of illustrator and photoshop, but it still takes me awhile when I am working on projects with them, but it is a lear and go process and I feel I am getting better with every project I do. I also use the Adobe website a lot because they have a lot of good tutorials and answers to questions I have. Youtube is also a very good library for tutorials on both applications.
What do you need to lean?
I need to learn quite a bit still to get to a stage where I don't have to constantly concentrate on how to do things in the application while designing. I know most of the basics but the more advanced and complicated stuff I have not got a hang of yet
