'My body, my choice' ? - I put a question mark at the end not because I personally question this sentiment at all, but because unfortunately several countries and governments around the world still do. - Pretty archaic laws and amendments are still in place to prevent women from being able to make very personal decisions about their own lives and bodies. - Women are stopped from making a choice that is hardly ever made lightly; one that can be extremely devastating, but still one that they, at the end of the day need to be the ones to make. - I believe that all women should have the right to choose to have an abortion and have it done in the country that they live in. Women need to to be able to receive the care and support they need locally, instead of having to travel miles away in secret and fear, or worse - feeling forced into taking actions that put their own lives at risk; since many women without the option or means to travel often resort to other more dangerous methods in their desperation. - In Ireland specifically, currently about ten women a day travel to England in order to have this procedure. That's thousands every year simply because they could face imprisonment for up to 14 years. - Today, hopefully women and men in Ireland will vote YES to #repealtheeighth amendment and legalise abortion there #togetherforyes #solidarity #support #Ireland - Mural by Dara Kenny
