in Paris’s Roquette district
I'm begging home renovators. If you're in a position where you have to remove outdoor steps anyway - why not just update them with a ramp?
Disabled people. Young children. The elderly. Those are a few good examples of why you should choose to update with a ramp. Not to mention it's easier to move stuff in & out.
& as someone who used to volunteer with the historical society & help renovate/repair old homes & buildings. You can update with ramps that fit the aesthetic/time period of the property.
If you're doing a new build. Please consider ramps inside instead of stairs too. For the same reasons!
Plus, they're super cool looking!

Piano
Whhoooooo-eyy. What a day. One of my cousins is a piano tuner/fixer, and was kind enough to agree to come visit this weekend and disassemble the baby grand piano at my father’s house. It is 100+ yrs old, unpayable, unfixable*, and immovable.
It could, however, be repurposed into a shelf unit as below, IF we could get the guts out of it and the legs removed. As below:
We started bright and early this morning and he worked the whole day through at getting it taken apart, greatly hindered by the fact that it wasn’t MADE to come apart, ever. In fact, vital interior bits were overlaid with wooden trim of the exterior frame to such a degree that replacing the soundboard, which had been hinky for 50 years, would have been impossible. B’s task was somewhat simpler in that he would not have to reassemble it afterwards, but he didn’t want to destroy the wooden parts to get the inner parts out, since we want them to be reused decoratively.
Well, we got as much done as could be done in one day - but it will STILL take some doing to get the massive iron frame out of the interior. I’m thinking my son should invite several of his largest friends over. This will take serious muscle-power.
While he was working, I started in on a storage/sewing room in the front of the house. I’d already spent a couple hours in there going through paperwork (a slow and tedious task, because there are things that should be kept in among the heaps of dross. Today I pulled Things out of Drawers (so many things, so many drawers), folded fabric that my father had bought and tossed in the corner, vacuumed pounds of dust and dead ladybugs, and sorted the bonkers amount of office supplies he had in there. On top of the office supplies that I found in the library, the computer room, and the kitchen. Sheesh.
Between filling garbage bags and vacuuming, I improved the look (and smell) of the room about 500%. It was a big day.
The guy redoing the barn roof is almost done. The guy who was going to remove the honeybees from the wall of the house is in the hospital. A young man towed the oldest old tractor away; he’s certain he can fix it and use it at his own place to help him raise and lower engine blocks or somesuch. Things are tottering along. Uncertainly, but gaining speed.
* But today we found out WHY - because someone fixing it would not have been able to remove the bad soundboard without tearing the whole thing apart.
Urbino (Marche). Cathedral (1021 - 1480 - 1789). Interior. Renovated after two earthquakes in neoclassical style at the end of the eighteenth century, the interior of the cathedral of Urbino is in the shape of a Latin cross, with three white naves covered by a barrel vault, crowned, at the transept crossing, by a majestic coffered dome. Shots: a) transept, left altar dedicated to Our Lady of Mercy, the canvas is attributed to Pompeo Batoni; b) central nave and high altar; c) small chapel; d) Madonna di Loreto (17th century), altarpiece by Claudio Ridolfi, left aisle, fourth altar. #shots #style #latin #lady #cover #barrel #crown #shape #urbino #marche #cathedral #interior #renovate #white #small #mercy #dedicated #majestic #travel #traveling #visiting #instatravel #travelling #tourism #instatraveling #travelgram #travelingram #massimopistis #sovVERSIvi #estremisti Information for the purchase of my new book "Extremists!": The book at a cost of 12.00 euros (120 pages), can be ordered in the bookstore (ISBN 978-88-591-5719-9 - Editore Aletti) or requested to the e-mail [email protected] with additional postage (currently 1.28 euros - fold of books). https://www.instagram.com/p/CmE8LGXNFf9/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
