Maisie loves adding splash’s of color and pattern (as you can probably tell) as well as combining it with lots of monochrome.

She and her boyfriend Matt fell in love with the high ceilings, large rooms, and garden in this garden flat in a 1950’s semi detached house. She describes her decorating style as maximalist, colorful and eclectic. 

Adding the odd bit of washi tape or vinyl to your plain kitchen cupboard or around a door frame can accentuate and add detail to mundane things in your home.

Maisie said, “luckily Matt didn’t mind me plastering the kitchen in leopard print.”

On the walls of the hallway, she used pieces of washi tape. It looks just like wallpaper, doesn’t it?

Maisie loves using vinyl and washi tape. It’s a great way for renters to add character and color to their places without having to paint or wallpaper.

Using washi tape and vinyl doesn’t have to fiddly or time consuming. 

Alternatively, if you want to go all out, you could cut up small bits of a couple of different colors and create a confetti feature wall, and the best bit about it all is that it peels straight off when you move out!

She gets her furniture from a mix of places. In her spare time she loves rummaging through charity shops for pieces she can upcycle, that cost her a fraction of the price in most furniture shops.

They’re also great for things like photo frames, old bits of art work and small furnishings. She’s found some great second hand stuff on Facebook market place too.

“I do go to bigger interiors stores for things like sofas and soft furnishings and I love me an IKEA trip,” says Maisie.

She’s also rifled thru the occasional dumpster. She  found 2 chairs in a skip outside a hotel and had one of them upholstered in pink velvet, and the other she painted black and drew on a leopard print pattern.  

Maisie spent the last year making this flat her own and it would a shame to just up and leave now, so she’s happy here for the foreseeable future

She always has a supply of paint, brushes, wallpaper scraps, a toolkit and craft essentials so she can crack on with a project without having to dash out and buy stuff.
