ok Religions of Remanent head-canon because I have been developing a RWBY OC who is deeply religious and I want to develop how that would actually work in the context of the series.
2 major religions on Remnent, but most people just give lip service to them with very rare devoted.
The 2 Brothers Faith, popular among humans and the Earth Mother Faith popular among Faunus are the main religions, with several spin offs of them and some smaller religions with official recognition.
The 2 Brothers Faith is the main human faith, with many variations. It preaches that Humans are the master work creation of the gods. Most revere the God of Light as the primary figure with the God of Dark as a Satan analog. How Faunus are viewed in this equation depends on the spin-off, Used to be more powerful but it’s influence has waned over the centuries.
The Earth Mother Faith is the main faith/philosophy of the Faunus as well as more remote areas of Remanent (this is the one my OC follows). It’s followers view the cycles of nature as evidence of the higher power of the Earth Mother. Life/Death, Predator/Prey, the changing of the seasons and the like are all aspects of the Earth Mother. Whether humans/Faunus came from the Earth Mother or we evolved depends on the spin-off. Rarer then the 2 Brothers Faith but more devoted among it’s followers.
Grimm are viewed as the Creation of the God Of Darkness in the 2 Brothers Faith where as the Earth Mother Faith preaches they are aliens.
The societies of Remnent are default Secular currently, with religion being a more personal matter. Because of the limited land space available with in the societies, actual churches and temples are rarer then they would be on our Earth. Some religious festivals do happen, but these are more just excuses to party then actual religious celebrations.
