enemies to lovers but its not "who did this to you?" but its "I did this to you" bc damn in the moment it felt necessary but the cuts weren't supposed to be that deep. the lashes should have faded by now, right? why are they still limping? make your characters self reflect. burden them with guilt and regret :) imagine laying in bed with the person you grew to love, only for them to roll over in their sleep and for you to see the nettled scars you inflicted on them

“Noa didn't know that the images in his head while he slept were dreams”
What if Noa feels many things but doesn’t know how to name them?
Could Mae be the one to teach him the names of the emotions he feels, among other things?
****
“It all means something and yet nothing to me” (Stranger like me - Phil Collins)
I’ve mentioned that it's good for both Noa and Mae to have had crushes before so they can recognize their attraction to each other.
I was told it would make sense with Mae. Because if she hadn't fallen in love before, it would lead to confusion. But if she knows what a crush feels like, it would give us more room for a sense of alarm.
Especially considering that this time, her romantic interest would be an ape, supposedly the beasts she wants to defeat.
Now, let's talk about Noa. The same should apply to him. BUT...
Remember the deleted scene:
<<Noa didn't know what dreams were.>>
That makes me think Noa doesn’t know many things, actually. He feels them, sees them, but can’t name them all.
Which creates an opportunity for Mae to explain/teach him things. Like a guide or teacher.
Because who else would he talk to?
Noa knows she knows a lot of things. And he’s very curious.
They just need to break that barrier where Mae doesn’t want to show him much. Give her a sign of trust.
But once Noa can identify his feelings, then he’ll be able to differentiate what he feels for Soona. Whether it’s platonic or something more romantic.
I like that more.
Hence, he could point out that his thing with Soona is platonic.
The point is that Noa can express his feelings to show that the apes are evolving by leaps and bounds. And that they just need guidance.
Do you have any tips for strangers arranged marriage plot? Kinda struggle to start :(
Thx 𖹭
YES absolutely, arranged marriage strangers-to-lovers is so juicy, but yeah, the beginning can feel weirdly hard to crack. like… how do you start a relationship when there's no relationship yet?? you’re trying to build chemistry and stakes from nothing, and still make it feel emotionally real.
so let’s break it down 👇
🌶️the core tension = contract vs connection.
they’re bound together by something external (family, politics, survival, magic law, whatever), not choice. that friction between “we have to be in this” and “do we want to be in this” is your heartbeat.
→ every early scene should let that tension breathe.
→ she doesn’t know if she can trust him. he doesn’t know what she wants. they misread each other. they pull back. they move forward. they get it wrong. it’s messy, because real closeness grows from uncertainty.
🌒 start after the decision, but before the comfort.
you don’t need to open with the wedding or proposal unless it’s plot-critical. honestly, it’s often more powerful to start right after the commitment is sealed.
→ they’ve signed the papers. the ceremony is done. now they’re staring at each other in the hallway of a shared home like: “so… you want the left drawer or?”
→ this gives you room to explore who they are in proximity to each other, and how the arrangement shifts their behavior.
🔍 build tension through contrast.
they should approach this situation differently. one might see it as duty. the other as punishment. one’s trying too hard. the other’s emotionally shut down. one’s deeply polite. the other pushes buttons.
→ the contrast gives you sparks. and from those sparks, you can build emotional ground.
🔥 scenes > exposition.
show the distance through awkward firsts.
→ eating dinner together without talking.
→ realizing they don’t know how the other takes their tea.
→ one getting sick and the other not knowing if they’re allowed to help.
these tiny moments do more than backstory ever could.
🕯️don’t skip the awkward stage.
seriously. lean into it. the first time they argue, the first accidental touch, the first sign of protectiveness or jealousy. even the silence has texture.
→ when you show the shift from “i don’t know you” to “i’m starting to see you,” it hits harder.
you want that moment later where the reader realizes: wait… they know each other now.
💡 quick prompts from me to get started:
she finds something of his in their shared space, something vulnerable.
one of them is forced to defend the other in public, even if they barely know them.
a shared chore, task, or journey where they have to cooperate, but completely clash.
someone from their past shows up and the other gets an unexpected glimpse of who they were before this marriage.
🌼 final note from me:
you’re not writing a romance that starts with attraction. you’re writing one that starts with obligation and grows. and that’s so rich, because everything they learn about each other is earned.
you got this. the start doesn’t have to be perfect, just real. and a little uncomfortable.
(i’m cheering you on from the metaphorical arranged marriage sidelines 🖤)
Some notes on my impression/interpretation of the relationship developments between the Straw Hats in S2:
Zoro & Nami - Continues wonderfully from their established connection in S1, fun sarcastic and sassy banter throughout but also wonderfully sincere moments of support, concern and care for each other.
Vivi - Nami acts as her main emotional focus to help her integrate into the crew, Luffy is the other, which makes for great supportive scenes between them.
Luffy - Has the least amount of emotional one-on-one scenes with the others this season (though there are a few moments) likely because his emotional connection to all of them was the most established in S1. He gets more stuff with the new characters like Vivi.
Nami & Usopp - Very wholesome and supportive interactions throughout, they just get along really well. They don't really joke around or banter with each other and have a little more calmer nature to their conversations than what we see them have with most of the others.
Sanji & Usopp - Two dumbasses supporting each other's dumbassery in a very entertaining and wholesome way. Not really emotional-focused so far but they just naturally feel on the same wavelength in their shenanigans which makes them really fun to watch together.
Zoro & Sanji - Not a very emotionally deep bond either but similarly focused on dumbassery as Sanji & Usopp, just more in the form of rivalry and insulting each other. Not to the point where you'd think they genuinely don't like each other though, they just rub each other the wrong way to some degree.
Nami & Sanji - Very comfortable with each other despite Nami being entirely unimpressed by Sanji's flirting. Sanji is particularly caring towards her which Nami doesn't reciprocate to the same degree but she still accepts and appreciates his emotional vulnerability towards her.
Zoro & Usopp - Also get along well despite the contrast in their personalities and mostly expressed by Zoro encouraging Usopp and genuinely praising him for when he comes through in a fight. Had the only emotionally sincere argument in the crew so far (Usopp snapping at Zoro for making him anxious with his anxiety about Nami) but also quickly solved it with a simple apology from Usopp which was really well done.
It's funny. If I had to say who each member of the crew is closest to I would rank them like this:
Zoro - Nami. It's probably supposed to be Luffy given Zoro's vow to him in S1 but in the episode-to-episode interactions Zoro just feels much more in tune with Nami than with Luffy and also more attentive to her and her emotions and well-being. He's definitely 2nd closest to Luffy though after Nami.
Nami - Zoro. Similar reason as above though Nami feels pretty emotionally close with every Straw Hat. I still see Zoro and Luffy as closer to her than Sanji and Usopp though because she expresses more care and concern towards them and relies on them the most.
Luffy - Romance Dawn Trio. He's pretty instantly emotionally close with pretty much everyone but the way he connected to Nami and Zoro feels more significant because of how emotionally closed off both of them are at the beginning.
Sanji - Usopp. Though Nami is a close second as he pays a lot of attention to her and opens up to her. Interaction-wise he feels more in tune with Usopp as his encouragement and care is better reciprocated by him.
Usopp - Sanji. With Luffy and Nami being a close second and third. He seems to gravitate towards Sanji the most in episode-to-episode interactions but also feels like he's just happy to be there with all of them in general.

I was reminded of Takeru and Ken's arch after Ken was no longer the Kaiser. Mainly, how Takeru treats Ken during his time of trying to make up for what he's done and convince the other's he's good.
So, I don't need to talk about the fight Takeru had with Ken, at least not that much.
The main thing about it, was that it was one of the dominos that fell that helped Ken realize what he was doing. Takeru's speech about how Ken doesn't know the true powers of the Darkness makes Ken realize he might not be as powerful as he thinks. This just makes Ken double down, but it is something that makes him think.
There's also the fact that Takeru might have been mad at Ken for playing with the powers of Darkness, but the main trigger for him was seeing Devimon. Being reminded of all the Darkness took from him and how he couldn't do anything about it. Takeru got angry at this(common when he's confronted with his traumas) and so he lashed out at the only person he could. Even if Ken was at fault for some things, he wasn't for all. In Takeru's Spring -2003- Story, Takeru admits that he gets embarrassed remembering that fight, so I think it's safe to say he regrets it.
Maybe he didn't regret making Ken realize he was wrong and playing with powers he didn't understand, but he did regret getting angry and losing control, hurting someone else.
Anyway, this is the really start of Takeru and Ken's relationship, as it's the first time they really interact with each other and it's not in the friendliest way. It's not brought up every again till later in the series(and not even by these two) but it's the start of their relationship.
Once Ken is no longer the Kaiser, he has to bond and get the others to forgive with him, and considering his past with Takeru, that might be hard.
Ken does try to get all of them to forgive him, and while he does have history with all of them, Takeru is one of the few characters he has a face to face interaction with alone. Takeru has shown to his face that he hates him. That he hated all he did, that it would be hard for Ken to get Takeru to forgive him because of what happened when he was the Kaiser.
However, after Ken is no longer the Kaiser, he kinda just ignores him.
It's show that Takeru feels like there's another Darkness out there, but he doesn't think it's Ken. All of the others don't want Ken to join their team, and as you can see from the screenshot, neither does Takeru.
Takeru is against Ken joining their team, but as you can see from the pervious screenshot, he also thinks Ken has changed. Takeru doesn't understand what Daisuke means when he says he can "understand Ken's heart", but he does believe that Ken has changed from how he was before. Iori doesn't think this, he doesn't trust Ken, and Miyako as well as Hikari are hesitant about Ken. Miyako is unsure Ken has fully changed as well, and Hikari thinks Ken still needs to prove himself.
This is what I believe Takeru thinks.
I think Takeru did believe Ken changed. Ken acts so much different from when he was the Kaiser. Ken and The Kaiser are not the same people, and I think Takeru has enough experience with the powers of Darkness to know that Ken was not the Kaiser anymore(also i personally think takeru would sympathize with ken because he lost wormmon in a similar way to how he lost patamon). However, Takeru did believe that Ken needed to make up for what he's done(as at this point none of them know ken was basically being mind-controlled).
So I think Takeru was okay with working with Ken, which is why he isn't as vocal about his worries about Ken as the others, because he does think Ken has changed but also thinks Ken needs to prove he wasn't like how he was before. Which leads to one of my favorite parts of Takeru and Ken's friendship arch.
Takeru basically ignores Ken.
Takeru doesn't seem to acknowledge Ken as much as the others do, he doesn't push back against Daisuke's efforts to get him to join as much as the others, and for all intense and preposes, he lets Ken prove himself while seeing of Ken has really turned good from the sidelines. I believe this might come from Takeru's embarrassment from punching Ken but also Takeru wanting Ken to prove himself by himself. To see if Ken has really changed by just letting him do what he think is right.
This all builds up quietly in the background, and I think Takeru fully realizes Ken has turned good during episode 37, the episode where Qinglongmon speaks to the Chosen Children.
Now, Qinglongmon doesn't speak about the Dark Spore in Ken or anything like that, just double downs on how the Crest of Kindness does belong to Ken so that's the most powerful trait in Ken's heart. It's Ken himself that I think makes Takeru realize he's changed.
Ken actively speaks on how he doesn't like the Darkness, now he wants it destroyed for good so it can't infect lives and create sad lives like BlackWarGreymon, and as Hikari points out, himself.
You can see Takeru in the background, and I think in this moment, Takeru fully realizes that Ken has changed. That Ken isn't the Kaiser, that he doesn't fight for the Darkness anymore. That Ken hates the Darkness just as much as he does, that Ken is now willing to fight alongside them and protect the Light. There were many points where Ken makes this clear, but I believe this was the final nail in the coffin for Takeru(and probably Iori as well since he also hasn't forgiven Ken at this point, might make an analysis about them) that Ken is good.
That they can be friends, that maybe, Takeru and Ken are more alike than they both think.
Takeru goes on to explain that Ken is wrong, that Light and Darkness have to exist in harmony and that as long as they have Hope everything will be fine, and I really like Takeru and Ken's friendship(i do not ship them romantically) but I also think that it might be Takeru trying to tell Ken that the Darkness isn't fully evil. It can create sad lives like Ken's, but it's need to maintain balance. That Ken needs to have some Hope in his heart, to look towards the Light when things get Dark.
It's after this that Takeru fully forgives Ken and becomes his friend, as he makes this clear in the scene after Qinglongmon's speech.
Takeru offers Ken the Pork Bun of Friendship and this is Takeru's first time really reaching out to Ken after he was the Kaiser.
Takeru has realized Ken has changed and will fight alongside them now, that Ken is good and hates the Darkness as much as the rest of them, so he reaches out to Ken and offers him friendship in the shape of a really large pork bun. Takeru has forgiven Ken, he's seen Ken has changed and believes in him and his Kindness.
This is also when Ken realizes Takeru has forgiven him. Ken is shocked at Takeru offering him the pork bun, offering Ken to eat with them. This makes sense, as this is the first time Takeru has really spoken to him since the fight and Takeru is in a weird way offering Ken to be his friend and really join their team, but he's happy about it.
There's also a chance that the reason Ken doesn't reach out to Takeru is that he believes Takeru still hates him like before(because of that fight) so this could be Ken realizing that Takeru didn't hate him and maybe never hated him after that fight.
Ken does just let the others create their own thoughts about him, never forcing any of them to forgive him unless they want too, so this isn't a special thing about Takeru and Ken's friendship arch, but a reason why Ken might not have really tried to reach out to Takeru. Scared that Takeru still hates him and doesn't want anything to do with him because of what happened before.
Ken accepts the Pork Bun of Friendship, and in a way, acctepts Takeru's offer of friendship and forgiveness.
This is really the last time these two interact, and I am really sad about that because they had so much potential for an amazing friendship(or relationship if you ship them romantically) but they didn't.
However, I do like how they handled their arch of becoming friends after the Kaiser.
To summerize it:
Takeru ignores Ken, from embarrassment and wanting Ken to prove himself by himself. Takeru sees how Ken is trying to make up for what he's done, and this peaks as Ken explains just how much he doesn't want the Darkness to create another sad life. Takeru counters this, trying to get Ken to realize there can be Light in the Dark. Later, Takeru offer's Ken a hand of friendship in the shape of a pork bun and Ken accepts, showing Takeru has forgiven Ken and wants to be friends with him. Ken learns that Takeru doesn't hate him and wants to be friends with him, happy that the other boy forgave him and able to put what happened earlier between them behind them as they become friends.
I haven't really thought about this before, but I am happy I did as I do love it and these two's relationship throughout 02
How would you develop the love square over the course of the five seasons?
For me, the biggest change I’d make is have Marinette and Adrien’s relationships with Luka and Kagami last from the back half of season three to the end of the first half of season four, as well as focusing on them being actual friends in seasons two through four. I’d also have a mutual identity reveal happen near the end of season three (alongside the other Miraculous holders at the time since Miracle Queen never happens) and create a kind of charm that conceals any miraculous-related thoughts from Shadowmoth to justify the continued knowledge. This leads Adrien and Marinette to re-evaluate their partnership and relationship as they become of the full extent of each other’s natures, rather than just the sides of each other that they each fell in love with.
Also, I’d love for their final admittance of their mutual feelings to be in a Marinette akumatisation episode, where the akuma Marinette gets turned into (maybe the final one Gabriel creates before he’s defeated after learning Marinette’s secret identity) is too powerful for the other heroes to defeat through force. Because of this, Marinette’s loved ones (parents, friends and Adrien) have to try and talk her down, with Adrien’s declaration of love being one of the main factors (outside of supporting words from her parents and assurances from her friends) that inspires Marinette to embrace the willpower necessary to break free from Monarch’s influence.
