so like. both petunia and reg are both very traditional and they're both yearning for normalcy while at the same time they're also yearning for (to me) autonomy of their own lives. but they don't want what sirius or lily have/did. regulus doesn't want to rebel like his brother, petunia doesn't want to be the center of attention like lily. but they both sort of want out of the prison they've built for themselves/have been built around them.

regulus is terrified of leaving the noble most ancient house black because it would mean fending for himself. make a life for himself. create an identity and independence. he wants autonomy, but not enough to leave the comfort of the chains binding him.

petunia wants to be taken care of. she wants to be wanted and desired, similar to the way lily always seems to be wanted and desired, but she doesn't want be lily. she wants normalcy and rules and to blend in. she doesn't want to stick out, but she wants to be loved.

i think they're both terrified of gaining unwanted attention. they're both very careful about both how they act and how they're percieved. everything is very carefully curated and controlled in order to blend in as well as possible. regulus suddenly being the heir, petunia shaping herself into the perfect house wife in order to find a stable and wealthy husband. they're both just following the rules, not drawing outside the lines, not challenging their positions. no less, no more.

basically they're both yearning for autonomy and freedom, but not necessarily for change. both lily and sirius are ecstatic about them getting together and the implications of it. regulus leaving his responsibilites behind, petunia unlearning what she thought she had to be in order be loved and desired. but like... nothing really changes. they're not interested in parties with the marauders, double dates, game night, whatever else. they're slowly mending their relationships with their siblings, but that's about it. sometimes just breaking free is radical enough, and you can stop after that <3

they both have to work, so they both have to provide. they're breaking free from their chains by leaving (reg leaving, petunia unlearning) while still feeling protective of tradition and stability. only now they have autonomy of what that'll look like to them. they go to bed at the same time, and they wake up in the morning at the same time. they make breakfast together. they have a garden. they go on picnics. writing grocery lists turns them on. budgeting is sooooo exciting. they're kissing for the simple joy of kissing <- so important to me about them. it's not a means to an end or foreplay, they're just kissing for hours on end. learning love and desire. quiet domesticity and unassuming days. they don't want change like sirius and lily, but they want separation from their beginnings. they're both sacrificing a lot by choosing each other, but they would also have the most unassuming normal domestic relationship in the world.

their interests are cinema/going to the cinema (especially black and white 50's hollywood era), gardening, going to the market, writing lists, kissing, car rides, reading, meal prepping, their cats (they have cats).

so yeah......
