I say non-internet because I think a lot of gay people say y'all on the internet who don't do that IRL! and also, I think you guys is pretty ubiquitous.

Does anybody have resources with information on the differences between the Cherokee dialects? I’ve spent genuine weeks looking but I can’t find anything anywhere that explains them. I’ve only ever heard mention of different pronunciations of certain sounds but never any specifics. I myself am Eastern Band Cherokee and am looking to learn Cherokee. I want to know more about the eastern Cherokee dialect of North Carolina since that’s where my ancestry is, and I’m also a just language enthusiast who is utterly fascinated by these things. If anyone has any resources for dialectal differences, it’d be much appreciated.

today i realized that i don't pronounce "bag" the Canadian way. (supposedly, most Canadians say "bayg", as in bale, while i say "bahg", as in "bat".)

however, my grandma does pronounce it as "bayg". so, wondering where the generational cutoff is, i asked my mom how she pronounces it.

and she says "bayg" too!

so i guess i absorbed bag from tv shows or youtube or something as a wee lad.

any canadians reading this; tell me how you and your family members pronounce bag! i want more data

Finding out how many dialectal features I use always surprises me but I can accept that it makes sense. What I can't understand is that not everyone says "summat"

A special interest of mine is accents and regional dialects. I decided to do a little dive into the different Australian accents and found this:

I’m South Australian, and though I’ve been told by a lot of people from inter-state that I clearly have a South Australian accent, I honestly can’t tell. Most Australian accents sound the same. Only difference is how someone pronounces ‘dance’ and ‘plant’

genuine question, do americans use the phrase “pack it in”? As in, if you tell someone to “pack it in” you’re telling them to stop it/shut up. I’m scottish and i’ve never heard the phrase used anywhere else (like movies, tv, travel) but just read a fic where an american character said it and it just got me thinking lol
