#regency monster

I've been cooking up a new serial idea and want to hear your thoughts. It would be a spin-off of Sphinx Librarian featuring Adelaide's friend Frederica, who briefly appears in chapter 7 and who always covered for Adie so she could go off and have sexy times with Griffon.

Frederica is a young widow, so she has experience with sex and more freedom to go about as she pleases, which means I can write in sexy times early in the story 😈

The MMC is her childhood friend whom she hasn't seen for years. He's been in love with her his whole life and believes she's his mate. But when he tried to tell her that, she bucked against the idea of being so tightly bound to someone and controlled by them and turned him down. She married someone else impulsively who she thought was more wild and fun. MMC left brokenhearted, perhaps as a soldier a la Colonel Brandon?

But now he's back, and she's single again and wiser. She is head of her household now, so she's the one in control as she always wanted to be, and in some ways she loves it, but in other ways it's a lot to bear. Maybe she even has a small child?

Ironically, it's now control that she would sometimes like the ability to give up. Enter gentle dom MMC! Somehow or other, she and MMC start a sexual dom/sub relationship where she can give up control to him, which actually makes her feel more free, not less. Sex turns into feelings, love, mating bond, yadda yadda happily ever after.

Frederica is gonna be half black just because I'd like more diversity to be more realistic. MMC is gonna be of Irish descent because why not, Irish accents are hot, and I want to make him a chimera of wildlife that has gone extinct within Ireland: head/antlers/shoulders of an elk, torso/limbs/paws of a brown bear, tail/cock of a grey wolf (knotting!), eyes of a wildcat. Mostly though I want him to look reminiscent of Kai from Kung Fu Panda 3 because he's so hot to me 🙈 Alternatively, he could be a dragon. Either way, he's gonna be huge and bulky but very calm, quiet, and serious.

I've written only 2 fics with merfolk before, one paired with a shipwrecked sailor and another with a sea bather. But what about a Regency era lighthouse keeper or fisherman who encounters a merman? Or a pioneering scientist like Mary Anning who spends her time on the beach? Or maybe the Thames is infested with merfolk during the London Season?

Or, what about a Jane Austen character turned merman? Maybe Mr. Darcy can shift into human form on land but he's grumpy and rude about it? Is Captain Wentworth a merman whom Anne Elliot had to give up because how does a human make a relationship work with a merperson?

He's rich, right? Part of the gentry, never had to work a day in his life, clueless about how real life works for most people. He literally doesn't know how to dress himself. That's what servants are for.

But even though he's rich, he can't be a snob, otherwise he's not a himbo. He's cheerful, kind, and generous with his money. He uses it to throw elaborate balls all the time and invites everyone because he loves to party Regency style.

He follows the rules about not touching or kissing or, God forbid, having sex before marriage because he's just so innocent and easily flustered. But you see him get hard in his breeches around you all the time.

On your wedding night, his monster mating instincts come out, and he goes totally feral fucking you, but it confuses him so badly that you, the human, have to patiently explain to him what it means to go into rut and reassure him that he's not doing anything wrong.

Then he can relax and just enjoy being a big wild monster joyfully bucking into your tight body.

But when he starts trying to talk about it in polite society—"Do you know about this thing called a rut? It's fantastic!"—you have to drag his big dumb body away from your genteel guests and try to explain the difference between private and proper conversation topics. He doesn't quite get it, but he nods his meaty head and promises to be good.

this might sound silly but do you use any resources as references for creatures you’re not familiar with? or are certain traits in your fic your own creation?

I don't have any specific references to recommend for different types of creatures. I mostly learned about them just by following lots of monster blogs here on Tumblr for a quite a while, and by reading published monster romance novels. Then I'll either google stuff I don't know, or just make it up, so yeah, some of the traits in my fics are my own creation.

Like, gargoyles being nocturnal rather than turning to stone, and wearing chains on their wings when they get married/mated—I just made these things up. Or I'll build off of something someone else wrote and make it my own (with credit to them), like orcs wearing tusk rings when they're married/mated wasn't my idea (it was from @monstersflashlight), but I added the bit about the rings being connected with a chain and needing to have sex with the chain on to complete their mate bond.

Sometimes I purposely go against norms because it's fun for world-building in the Regency era. Like, my cambions aren't half-demon, but I made up that this is a common myth/rumor that makes prim proper Regency humans want to keep their pure daughters away from them.

I'm Fira, and I've created this blog as as outlet for all the monster fuckers like me who also enjoy Regency romance and think it's both funny and sexy to picture monsters living in a Jane Austen novel.

Hadn’t written a dragon on this blog yet, so decided it was time I fix that.

I've written 10 installments for my first Regency monster romance serial, my Colin and Susannah werewolf fic, but I also have several standalone ficlets with other characters. I'm definitely going to write more for the grumpy orc who insists he's not attracted to a human, but which other one would you most like to see a part 2 written for? I'll probably write more for many of these at some point regardless, but which would you like to read first?

Also, when the poll is over, I'll randomly pick one follower to name the characters for the next part I write, because it's hard to write a series about nameless characters!
