Working through Mark Guiliana's playing on the Avishai Cohen Trio song "The Ever Evolving Etude" from Avishai's "Gently Disturbed" album. Mark is definitely among my biggest influences for the last 10 years and the music of Avishai. Ahhh, that one time I went to see Avishai Cohen with Gonzalo Rubalcaba, at The Cotton Club in the Marunouchi building when I was living in Tokyo a decade ago. For some reason, this MJ song came into my head. No, this is not the groove that John "JR" Robinson played on the track but it's how the whole groove with the synth, bass and Michael's vocalized percussion feels to me. Sure we should learn songs as they are with the original intent of the groove and phrasing (especially if you're playing them in a cover band) but we should also work on playing them how we feel it and begin to put our own signature on it to reflect how the original made us feel. Can you guess what song the fill at the end is from? 1 hint. It's not on the "Bad" album, it's on "Thriller" and for some reason although the hi-hat/snare/bass drum fill only plays that segment twice, I am remembering it as if it was an Indian classical tihai and playing it 3 times (?!) I'm so happy to have my camera working properly again!! The auto focus is off through the view finder but whatever, works fine in live view and through a monitor. I found a good deal on a EF-S 24mm lens and looking for a 10mm - 18mm in the near future for vlogging. Will be using the 50D as my webcam for general video and live streaming thanks to the Magic Lantern firmware in a few weeks when my capture card and HDMI cable comes in.
