“A buried fortress...? Ah, I’m so sorry, but I’ll have to decline,” Kay bows slightly, a too-pleasant smile lingering on her features. “While, uh... ghost hunting does sound interesting, don’t you think that’s a bit dangerous...? Not to mention that place is probably dreadfully filthy. I'm afraid I don’t really like getting dirty.”

She laughs softly, covering her mouth. Surely no self respecting princess would play in the mud!

Frankly, she isn’t even sure why this guy is talking to her, let alone inviting her places, but she’s trying her best to be polite amidst the partygoers.

Even though her surroundings had changed, there was very little about Gyess that actually had. Navigating the advanced cities was a challenge for her but she was still determined to learn her surroundings, allowing her curiosity to roam as she searched for answers. It didn’t take her long to find a place where she longed to be more than anything in the world. 

This forest was beautiful. Being among nature wasn’t new to her, in fact, it was a certain level of comfort to be back in a familiar place. As she freely roamed among the trees, she eventually stumbled upon something she had never seen in a forest. It was bigger than any building she had ever seen and yet it didn’t seem out of place. She cautiously approached the steps, eventually making her way inside. 

She gasped at the sight of the place. It was just as massive as the outside but full of beautiful streams, flowers… and books? This forest seemed more strange with every hour that passed. She ran around the place eagerly admiring every small detail in wonder.

Eventually, her gaze fell to the book shelves. She had never been in a place with so many of these in her life. While her common was not great, she was able to identify a single word: “magic”. She had an idea, perhaps this place has an answer to her problems! She had been searching for a cure to her magic for so long, maybe that’s why she was transported here.

She scanned the books more closely, looking for more words she could identify, but she struggled to find anything in draconic. She quickly realized she had no idea how to navigate the place - this was her first time being in a library after all. She quickly glanced around, maybe there was someone who could help her? 

The first being her gaze fell upon, a figure. He appeared to be a pretty normal human, with strange blue pants and long brown hair. She’d usually hesitate to approach strangers, but she was more desperate than usual. She walked up to him, hands clasped together nervously as she looked up at him. 

“Oh, your calculations are off.” Leaning on the edge of the table, Lilith taps the paper with one finger.

“Look here. The enhanced speed on an undead like this would come from the plant fibers supporting its body in place of muscle-- you’d want to focus more of your power on the vines rather than the corpse you’re trying to raise. Does that make sense?” In the margins, she jots down the ratio she would use for an undead of that size, as well as the names of a few specific plants or vines that would support it well. Whoever wrote these notes had the right idea, but seemed to have a very loose grasp of the finer points of the science.

Sniff sniff. 

“You!” 

Fingers point at the denim clad gentleperson. Nostrils flared as you sniff the air once again. 

Sniff sniff 

“You smell of an incoming storm, the way the air feels electrified. You are a practitioner of magic correct? So tell me compadre, can you too turn into a mammoth?” 

         “ i call myself ‘murderbot’.”

        as soon as the pollen effects drew those words out of it, the secunit looked absolute horrified. its face went pale behind its visor, and although it had begun un-conditioning itself to the effects of the governor module long ago, it still tensed as if it was expecting a blow from it. it didn’t think barry would use that information against it - not that he really could - but that wasn’t the point. the point was that the name should have been something only itself and a few others knew, and now there were two people in spirale that knew it.

The heat of the day fades into nighttime chill, and before Jasper even knows it the sun is back on the horizon again. She must have bubbled a few dozen gems by now. Gems don’t get tired. She’s designed for battle, to endure without end. But, still, she’s getting... worn out.

Why do they act like she’s hurting them? She’s helping—for once in her miserable life, putting in effort to right a wrong. Her work has always been thankless, but she feels a particular annoyance at how difficult they’re being. It would be one thing if she was asked to heal these poor souls, but this is a task that should be very possible. She brought every one of these Gems here in the first place. So, it should only be logical that she can get them all out. And only right, she can almost hear Steven telling her.

“Why’d I even do this?” Thinking back, the actions she took in her desperation don’t make a lot of sense. A weak laugh escapes her, and she stands for a moment, chuckling as she stares down at her hands.

Then she growls, her voice rising into a scream of frustration as she slams her fist against a wall.

The sound echoes clear through the canyon, the vibrations still felt long after the air goes silent again.

She takes a few deep breaths, and moves on.

Maybe, it’s time to accept that this would go faster with help. She doesn’t want to admit it, but... maybe she doesn’t want to be here forever a little bit more. Who could she call on, though? She doesn’t know a lot of people in Spirale anymore whose company would be better than nothing...

for such a weird place, this island sure has a lot of... normal-looking individuals, that's for sure. silver's never been the best judge of character, but they figure it'd be a good idea to have some allies, at least for info-gathering purposes. better late than never to start learning from your past mistakes, right?

Barry Bluejeans was part of a special research team at Umbrella Corporation-- seven people total, including his wife, Lup and her brother, Taako. They were in charge of testing the limits of what bioweapons could be made-- their work was purely in the name of science, and well controlled. No one was supposed to get hurt.

...but when the virus was seized by the higher-ups, the team blamed themselves for the fallout, and set to work trying to rescue as many survivors as possible during the outbreak.
