So imagine: it's been centuries since Gavin lost the people he cares about. He's healed, but he still misses them. Especially Freelancer. He used to call them the love of his life and they would laugh that they couldn't be the love of his life because of how long his life would be. He was completely serious when he meant it.

He works at DAMN now, as a sort of councilor for demons to help them understand how many options they have and navigate the human world. He likes helping them, and he never thought he would have any problems.

Then, an inchoet walks into his office. Bright, curious eyes and an excitement about learning he is all too familiar with. They look and act so similar, but so different all at once. He does his best not to make it their issue. It's not their fault they remind him of his love.

Then more show up. There is an incubus, who is incredibly competitive but more relaxed than he ever saw his friend. A serenity demon who is so sweet and incredibly smart, choosing to sit outside to tutor other students. A shock demon who rambles about the things he enjoys, the anxiety he had been raised into finally leaving him. And a misery demon, cheerful, bold and impulsive but so caring and kind.
