The highlights in cool factor so far in ffxiv have been main story beats, of course, and generally tied to msq group content. The highlights mechanically, though, have absolutely been solo trials. Rhiahtyn was fucking amazing - memorable for being the fight that taught me this game can be mechanically interesting when it wants to. I just now did Lambart, and similar deal there. Not as impressive, but still a serious step up from almost everything else. The former felt like a Furi guardian, I realised shortly afterward. The latter less so, but still. Being a red mage certainly deepened that feeling in both cases.
Red Mage continues to be amazing in its own right tbh. I expected something mild and approachable from such an obvious crowd pleaser, but I'm so glad I reluctantly gave it a shot so I could find what's at this rate going to be my favourite mmorpg class. The Lambart fight really makes it shine too - the way it asks you to juggle your chaotic rotation with near-constant AoEs and mandatory healing. Really captures the complexity you'd expect to go with the flavour of a duelist spellblade. Hectic and varied. Sooooo satisfying to pull off while thinking on your feet.
