I always wanted to write a story about my red Hawke Lucien, but I'm not sure if somebody out there cares for this rather harsh love between him and Fenris. Let me know what you think:
Lucien Hawke isn't a nice man. Ruthless, dominant, and utterly indifferent to what anyone thinks of him, he tolerates fools poorly and sentiment not at all. Fenris shouldn't be drawn to him. But he is. Hawke's harsh honesty, his refusal to perform kindness, his complete lack of interest in winning anyone over, it cuts through Fenris's defenses in ways no warmth ever could.
For the first time, Fenris offers himself without being asked. And Hawke accepts, on his terms. Fenris becomes part of Hawke's circle, protected like family, claimed without being owned. It's the closest thing to safety Fenris has ever known.
Then Fenris makes the mistake he can't undo.
One night, one moment of vulnerability, and he runs, leaving Hawke behind. And Hawke, who lets few people in, who extended his fierce loyalty to Fenris without reservation, closes the door. Not with rage or with punishment. Cold distance. Fenris is useful again. Nothing more.
Now Fenris must spend three years earning his way back into a circle he didn't realize he was already inside. No apologies accepted, only proof. Only staying. Only showing up, again and again, until Hawke's frozen loyalty begins to thaw.
The reckoning comes when Danarius returns for his property. And Hawke, wordlessly, takes his place at Fenris's side.
Because that's what you do for family.
