Driving through rural areas such as Red Ash can be scary, especially when those areas have a pretty high Shadowbug population. There are two main reasons for this:
1. The roads are incredibly dark, allowing Shadowbugs to basically emerge out of nowhere. Their eyes don't reflect your headlights since they're so tall, so you have a high risk of hitting them with your car. Considering how big Shadowbugs are, your car will be decimated.
2. The Shadowbugs in these areas aren't super friendly towards humans since they don't see people that often. As a result, these guys are a bit more likely to attack humans if they feel like the human is a threat. Thankfully, it is still possible to befriend these Shadowbugs (though it will take a bit more patience for them to get accustomed to you).
