“Thought maybe we could talk,” he says, voice low.

Before you can answer, a familiar human body slides directly in front of you.

Spider plants himself there like a stubborn tree root.

“No.”

Quaritch exhales slowly. “Kid.”

“You are not dating my mom.”

Quaritch pinches the bridge of his nose. “I didn’t even say—”

“You were about to.”

Spider crosses his arms.

“Y’all are not good enough for my mom and I don’t want you around her. End. Of. Discussion.”

Quaritch studies him for a long moment.

Then he mutters, almost impressed, “You’re a pain in the ass.”

Spider nods proudly.

“Correct.”

Lyle Wainfleet

Lyle Wainfleet tries a different approach.

He shows up with a small woven bracelet he traded for in the village, clearly planning to give it to you.

“Hey, sweetheart—”

Spider appears instantly.

Like he teleported.

“Nope.”

Lyle blinks down at him. “Where did you even come from?”

“The forest protects me,” Spider replies flatly.

Lyle holds up the bracelet.

“It’s a gift.”

Spider squints at it suspiciously.

“Bribery.”

“It’s not bribery!”

“You’re bribing my mom.”

Lyle sighs heavily and pockets the bracelet again.

“You’re making this really hard, kid.”

Spider shrugs.

“That’s the goal.”

Prager decides confidence is the way to go.

He walks up beside you while you’re sorting herbs near the village.

“Beautiful day, huh?”

Before you answer, Spider slowly turns toward him like a guard dog hearing a suspicious noise.

“…Why are you talking to my mom?”

Prager blinks.

“I’m being polite.”

Spider narrows his eyes.

“You’re flirting.”

Prager pauses.

“…Maybe a little.”

Spider points toward the forest.

“Go flirt with a tree.”

Prager looks genuinely offended.

“I’m more charming than that.”

Spider doesn’t even hesitate.

“Debatable.”

Mansk

Mansk tries humor.

He crouches slightly beside you, grinning.

“You ever notice how quiet the jungle gets when certain people leave the area?”

Spider slowly turns toward him.

“…Are you saying I should leave?”

“Not saying it,” Mansk replies quickly. “Just implying it.”

Spider stares at him for a long moment.

Then he sits down directly in front of you.

On purpose.

Blocking Mansk completely.

“You may continue speaking,” Spider says calmly.

Mansk sighs.

“You’re the worst wingman in history.”

Spider smiles proudly.

“Thank you.”

Brown isn’t subtle about it.

He walks up and sits beside you on a large root, clearly intending to start a conversation.

Spider immediately sits on your other side.

Very close.

Brown glances at him.

“You always this protective?”

“Yes.”

Brown looks back at you.

“He does this every time?”

You nod apologetically.

Spider leans forward slightly.

“Also I’m taking notes.”

Brown frowns.

“Notes?”

“For when you mess up.”

Brown mutters under his breath, “I ain’t even started yet.”

Ja is actually nervous.

He approaches you while you’re sitting near the water and awkwardly rubs the back of his neck.

“Hey, I was wondering if maybe—”

Spider suddenly drops from a tree branch behind him.

“ABSOLUTELY NOT.”

Ja nearly jumps out of his skin.

“Where do you keep coming from?!”

Spider points at him.

“You’re flirting with my mom.”

Ja glances between you and Spider helplessly.

“I wasn’t even finished talking!”

“You didn’t need to be.”

Spider folds his arms again.

“Denied.”

Ja sighs.

“I’m starting to understand why everyone’s scared of you.”

Spider nods proudly.

Fike decides to just ignore Spider.

He walks up confidently and starts talking to you anyway.

Spider slowly steps in front of him.

Fike leans sideways to keep eye contact with you.

Spider moves sideways too.

They repeat this three times.

Finally Fike groans.

“Kid, seriously?”

Spider stares up at him.

“I can do this all day.”

Fike sighs and walks away.

“You’re ruthless.”

Spider calls after him.

“Correct.”

Lopez tries the “be nice to the kid” method.

He crouches down beside Spider.

“So… hypothetically,” Lopez says casually, “if someone wanted to treat your mom very well—”

Spider interrupts instantly.

“You’re not someone.”

Lopez sighs.

“You didn’t even let me finish.”

“I didn’t need to.”

Spider gestures dramatically toward you.

“She deserves a warrior poet, not a guy who probably flirts by saying ‘nice spear.’”

Lopez looks offended.

“I have better lines than that.”

Spider pauses.

“…Name one.”

Lopez opens his mouth.

Then closes it again.

Spider smirks.

“Exactly.”

quaritch -> big brother of the group. usually in the middle when it comes to cuddle piles and doesn't mind being used as a pillow. he's extra soft with fike and walker

wainfleet -> can't help but love the entire squad with everything he has. it overwhelms him sometimes to the point where he feels like he needs to puke, but cuddles and head rubs and gentle praise usually helps him calm down

mansk -> absolute god at pool. prefers to play with lyle because that's the only real competition he'll ever get, but he doesn't mind playing with anyone else. he likes the company and quality time

lopez -> loves anything fluff and vanilla. midnight cuddles? yes please! non-sexual touches? wonderful! being the big spoon so he can curl around his little spoon and wrap his tail around theirs? absolutely

ja -> wide-eyed curiosity at everything. "why did you do that?" "how does the helicopter fly?" "why is my data off but yours isn't?" touches things he shouldn't and gets a gentle scolding from quaritch daily. it doesn't deter him in the slightest

fike -> baby of the group. everyone sort of dotes on him and he doesn't mind as long as it's behind closed doors. in the forests of pandora and hallways of bridgehead though, he hates it and it makes him feel babied

zdinarsik -> shares her gum if she or one of the other squad members is feeling down. she enjoys the closeness it brings and knowing that the sweetness of bubblegum is enough to make anyone scrunch their nose to avoid smiling

brown -> he has the prettiest eyes among the recoms. they all say so. they're always like glass but never black, and the bioluminescence of the forest reflects in them. the others say they never feel alone when they're with him

warren -> notices everything. z-dog's tail isn't as active as usual? "you okay?" lyle's smile is a little wobbly? big old hug and tail holding. he is a man of little words but many actions

walker -> likes to work out until her breathing's shaky and her body is buzzing. she says she likes it cuz it feels like the aftermath of an orgasm in that pleasant, fuzzy way

prager -> sleep talks! very sweet and vanilla, usually about the boys. a little gay be because he's in denial. "mm kisses?" "just cuddles" "colonel?" "i like that" etc :)
