Shortly after waking up, Toni felt herself completely numb. She sat in the middle of the unfamiliar bed, looking around at the room in the light of late-morning. By now the town would be up, they’d know of the attack, word would be spreading that her parents had been killed.

Unbeknownst to the young witch, her parents weren’t the only ones who had died in the night, many others had lost their lives to the huntress.

She didn’t care how and when the rest of the town found out, her mind went to Lyra, the woman was basically the only family she had left. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and concentrated on the woman’s room, an area she knew very well. It didn’t take long for her scrawl a message on Lyra’s mirror, something simple, but that would let her know she was alive.

Being undead, he didn’t sleep. Ever. Sure, he rested his mind and body when it needed it, but never sleep. So while the sun was up, he spent his time in his house reading, reviewing things for The Council or doing other various hobbies of his. 

So, when the sound of something breaking in one of the lower levels of the house caught his attention, he was understandably concerned. Most of those in town knew better than to disturb him during the daytime hours. He conducted business on occasion, but this was not one of those days.

Swift, long strides brought him down the two flights of stairs needed to reach where the sound came from. His brow furrowed as he rounded a corner and found a vase shattered on the floor. His head tilted as he listened for the sound of an intruder. Racing heart. Heavy breathing. Blood rushing like a river through veins. His nostrils flared at the scent of the blood, and he turned his attention toward the darkened room to his left from which he sensed his intruder.

Tris sighed as he looked at Lyra, a young woman who’s company he found himself enjoying more and more often. Today, however, might not be such an enjoyable day. She seemed to be causing trouble, and he’d gotten lip from Freya for letting Malachi show up to the recent council meeting instead of going himself.
