âHe should be straight ahead of you, Vers.â
Should was the optimal word, and that was easy for command to say when they werenât weaving their way through a crowded market street on a heavily congested space station. It would have been easy to find the thief if she were flying, but thatâd draw too much attention, and they claimed Vers could get a little too eager when using her powers. Nova Corps didnât want her to blow a hole in the station.
Vers didnât agree with their assessment, but she was trying her best not to argue.
âYou canât mark him?â She said quietly, slinking her way through a particularly dense group.
âToo many bodies, I can only get a general location.â
âUh huh,â she replied, unimpressed, âthanks for narrowing it down.â
âIf itâs any consolation, youâre getting closer,â the operator responded, âsending you his details.â
She tapped on her wrist console and brought up the target summary, and she gave it a cursory glance. Vers frowned.
âTerran?â She asked, scanning the balconies above her as she moved. âWhatâs a Terran doing out here?â
âI think a Kree working for Nova Corps trumps the space Terran,â the voice in her ear replied, âkeep your eyes on the prize, Vers.â
Vers suppressed the urge to scowl, instead glancing towards a vendorâs stall. There wasnât a lot on it that she found interesting, but one piece on the table was reflective. From the angle, it showed the higher stories of the stationâs main thoroughfare. There was a man on a third level catwalk, matching the description of the thief. He wasnât running, but moving with a purpose in the direction of the launch bay.
âThink I found him,â she said, itching to start the chase. âThird level catwalk, heading east.â
âGot him, droneâs doing a scanâŚâ
Vers began down the street again. If it was the thief, she couldnât risk losing him.Â
âDaedra Cube detected. Youâre clear to apprehend the suspect.â
She jumped up to the second story of shops and vendors, before leaping onto the catwalk. She swung herself over the railing, and landed in front of the human.Â
âHi,â she greeted, crossing her arms as the drone came to hover next to her, its bright orange lens fixed on him. âMind if we have a chat?â
