a love letter to my city
City-
Carry me through my days
take me to see 8pm sunsets
show me your insides
open surgery
I will peer into the inner workings
of stoplights and late transit lines
I rode through you today
and saw so much
like that hooked nosed man with a scar on his face
and a scarf tight around his neck
like the woman who is falling asleep
to the sound of roadway white noise
like the stranger who says words we can’t understand
and hides his face from fears we can’t see
like the stagefright pigeons
and sunlight window reflections
and the highway sidewalk chalk signatures
Tell me your secrets
share all your wisdom
no one has to know
I am a wayfaring child
walking in your concrete veins
whisper me your truths
and I will tell you mine
like how I am just so scared to leave you behind
tell me to write
tell me to visit
tell me to be brave
my lovely city
and thank you
for all you have to give
goodbye
