Same aesthetic and creepitude but the self-effacing camp is replaced with grim self-seriousness and instead of making a big deal of worshipping Christ he’s got enough of that stereotypical arrogance to have a cult where he’s the one being worshipped
Okay, so.
I feel like with live-action Moana coming out barely a few years after the animated version, eventually we're going to reach some kind of movie reboot singularity where they start making the live-actions and animated movies at the same time. And then they make the live-action reboots before the animated movies. And then we sit back and wonder what the hell it was all for.
Reboots that heavily emphasize reimagining of the characters and the story have the tendency to combine characters/ or change their backstory. DC has done this before with versions of Robin - where they combined the different suits and story elements of the Batfam onto 1 Robin.
In Ducktales 2017 they took elements from both the Barks, and Rosa comics and the 80s show. They changed a lot of the designs and backstories and even personalities. Gyro Gearloose is an extremely different person in the Reboot and a lot of folks were confused - but as the show progressed we got to learn his past and realize how it made for a much more compelling story and character.
Steelbeak also has a very different take that made fans upset but that's because they were telling a different story and had to change him to fit the narrative of Darkwing Ducks arc in the show. It was a big change but it was well done and intriguing enough that these versions grew on fans.
While I understand that the design of the Maws Superboy upsets fans do to it possibly being misleading with the way the team advertised him, all I could think about was the possibility of this being a way to make for a better story.
So combining the 2 Superboys into one can make for an interesting and exciting character story if wirtten well.
Imagine. It's the furture and Superman is gone. Hope is lost. And Lex Luther has cloned Superman but has raised him into thinking that his bio parents of Superman and Lois are dead and was orphaned. And now he gets to go back in time to save his parents and Lex only to find out that he is a clone.
We still don't know this Superboys deal yet, beyond being from the furture. Also Maws is one in a million of adaptions, reimaginings, reboots etc of Superman. So combining and remixing past ideas and characters are gonna happen.
It's ok to not like all the choices Maws Is making with the characters or the writing but it's hard to judge when the Superboy episode hasn't come out yet. Nor has the season ended.

Well, how the Samuel Langhorne FUCK do you think you're going to manage "both standalone 'monster of the week' cases and a slow-burning conspiracy arc" in a short-run streaming season, buddy? You HAVE to have the freedom of a 23-episode network season for that, and you ain't got that, now, do you? So maybe you shouldn't be trying to do things you know you can't pull off, now, should you?
Let the past be the past in all its glory, rub two brain cells together if you got 'em, and come up with something new and creative.

Hollywood Is Using Nostalgia Wrong
So, I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how Hollywood doesn’t seem to create a lot of original content anymore.
With all these reboots it’s only a matter of time until Hollywood starts going after other films that don’t need a reboot or sequel.
I can definitely see someone pushing coach Carter 2 where his son has to step up and follow his dads footsteps and coach a new generation of basketball players and teach them how to navigate the “real world” outside their screens
Or Maya hawk plays the lead in a kill bill reboot playing the daughter all grown up out for revenge on the assassins that killed her mom
Either that or someone out there is trying to push a reboot of the goonies and knowing how much they love using 80’s nostalgia the Duffer brothers are probably desperate to destroy it
