Struggling with readings? No problem!
It's totally valid and normal to struggle with reading textbooks! I definitely have. Here are some tips that improved my speed and note-taking skills.
- skim the titles, headings, introduction and summary of the text before properly reading it
- read chunks of text and then take notes (our brains aren't made to multitask. Plus, this tests you on how much you remember from each chunk!)
- read your course objectives and assessment information. Know what is being expected of you
- skim read most of the text. slow down when you find something relevant
- set aside an appropriate amount of time for readings
- be self-compassionate. Readings can be tricky!
- write down any questions which arise while reading
- split the reading into sections among classmates and teach each other the parts that you read.
- gamify the process by tracking your time spent reading, amount of pages read etc.
- find an audio book version of your textbook
You're a silly worm! Eat those pages! You've got this!!!
