The library was particularly empty after lunch today, you had a free period to do, well to do nothing. You usually spent this time in your room but one of your roommates was in there with some boy.
There was an open table right by some big book shelves that you decided to sit at, as you read your book you heard someone sit at the table on the other side of the large book shelf, not paying attention to who it was.
“What the fuck is a Fwooper?” You heard someone angrily whisper to themselves. You looked up from your book in shock. That sounded like Draco, oh shit, he must be reading about bird types or magical creatures.
You panicked again, your school year was usually so chill but this one had barely started and you had already been panicked twice by this damn boy, he was going to be the death of you. Should you sit and watch him, should you turn into your Animagus form and go see him? Show him that you mean no harm? You hid your books under your table and crawled underneath turning into your Fwooper form, flying up between the books you perched yourself right above him looking at what he was reading.
You didn’t want to scare him so you thought you should nicely sit on the edge of his table. You flew down quietly and he looked up from his book.
“Oh, it’s you again. Still stalking me I see? Well I just found out what creature you are! I’m going to go see who’s pet you are or check the list of registered Animagi that attend Hogwarts.” He held his chin high feeling as if he had won.
You remained silent not wanting to make any noise as your bird song made people go insane. You charmed a pen to write on one of his pieces of paper, scribbling the word ‘unregistered’.
He read it and groaned, “Of course you are unregistered what a surprise. That still doesn’t answer what you want from me.” He mumbled.
‘Nothing’ You scribbled onto the paper.
“Yeah that’s what you said in your stupid letter.” Draco angrily scribbled out your words on his page.
You moved closer to him pointing with your head to his shirt pocket, he looked from you to the pocket and realized you were pointing out how he didn’t burn this one.
“I only kept that one because if my plan of checking those lists fails, I can track you down by your handwriting.” He stated as a matter of factly as he could.
Draco looked back to the book and read the rest of the blurb about your bird, growing increasingly angry as he did.
“Your song drives people insane? Are you trying to drive me mad!” He yelled the second part gaining the attention from the rest of the library as you hid yourself back in the bookshelves. He tried to reach up to grab you but you flew away in a hurry. There was no getting better at this.
As Draco left the library he went to the headmaster’s office.
“Dumbledore I need a list of students with pets and students who are registered Animagi forms.” He held his head high as he made his request as if there was no way he could be turned down.
“Any reason in particular you would like these lists Mr. Malfoy?” Dumbledore asked as he sat at his desk.
Draco didn’t want to say a magical bird was following him, he would look even more mad, he tried to make up an excuse.
“It’s public information and I should be allowed to see it.” He argued not answering the question,
“And I didn’t say you can’t Draco, but they are long lists, is there any person or animal in particular you are looking for? I have them memorized, I could tell you.”
Draco huffed thinking of how to ask this. “Are there any students with pet birds, um purple ones to be more exact?” Draco awkwardly asked, his chin a little lower than before.
“I’m afraid not, that is an unusual colour.” Dumbledore answered him.
“Okay are there any people registered as Bird Animagi?” Draco asked again.
“A purple bird I presume?” Dumbledore chuckled lightly as the request.
“A Fwooper actually.” He stated.
“Unfortunately no again Draco, although that is a wonderful bird, they do have one at Magical Menagerie though.” Dumbledore spoke calmly to an ever growing stressed out Draco.
Draco nodded and didn’t respond, he just turned to leave the office. “Are you Okay Draco? If there is ever anything else, I can help you with please let me know.” He said still sitting at his desk.
“Okay” Draco mumbled as he left the office. This now meant he had to go through with his back-up plan. But how would he track down your handwriting? Maybe he could ask Snape but he didn’t know if Snape would even know.
Draco checked to make sure your letter was still in his pocket as he made his way to Snape’s office. Draco knocked on the door and entered slowly, revealing an empty office aside from Snape.
“Hello Malfoy, how can I assist you.” Snape slurred over the s as he spoke.
“I received this letter, anonymously yesterday and I’m trying to figure out who it was, the charm on it was very good so the only way I can figure it out is by the handwriting.”
“And what makes you think the writing isn’t charmed?” Snape didn’t even look up from his papers.
“The writing is kind of smudged so you can tell they hand wrote it.”
“Very well, let me see.” Snape took the note quickly analyzing it for a minute.
“The person writing it took a long time, which makes me think their writing is normally very messy, see how only the last few letters are smudged like the rest had quite a bit to of time to dry.”
“So I need to look for someone with messy hand writing?” Draco questioned, he was extremely confused.
“Yes, A few that come to mind are Ron Weasley, Neville Longbottom, someone like that.” Snape said with a certain distain in his tone at the mention of the Gryffindor names.
“Wonderful.” Draco said sarcastically as he rolled his eyes.
If it was a damn Weasley stalking him he would not be happy.
Draco felt lost, he wasn’t sure what to do next, he made his way back to the Slytherin common room but half way there he remembered he was supposed to be getting ready for a Quidditch match between Slytherin and Gryffindor.
It was well known that Draco always got yelled at when Slytherin lost, even with his dad in Azkaban he was still filled with worry about losing.
You sat in your room, getting ready to go watch the game, something you never did but you wanted to go to see if Draco would even still play Quidditch now.
“Do you think Draco is gonna catch the snitch?” You hear young first year Slytherin’s gossiping again as you walked towards the field.
“Of course he will, he has to win this game for Slytherin or I heard his dad is sending a Dementor after him.” The other answered in a very serious tone.
“There is no way that would happen!” The other one laughed at his ridiculousness.
“Wouldn’t be the first time a Dementor was at a Hogwarts Quidditch game...”
You were now worried, not because a Dementor was going to come attack Draco, that was mad gossip but you still knew he had a lot of pressure on him to win. Maybe you could try to help him, show him that you really weren’t out to get him.
As the game started you walked beneath some bleachers and shifted into your Animagus form, you flew high behind the seats where no one would see and when everyone’s attention was directed away from you, you flew up high into the cloud cover. You waited and waited hoping the Golden Snitch would fly this high today, there was no knowing where it would most likely go.
You saw it fly past you and you sped after it, you were fast and the Golden Snitch wasn’t expecting a bird to come after it. You quickly caught it in your mouth and waited.
It didn’t take long for Draco to fly up into the clouds as well, he felt like screaming when he saw you. He tried to start telling you off as you landed on the top of his broom stick, but grew confused when you used one of your wings to point towards his hand, he opened it and you dropped the Golden Snitch inside and flew away.
“Oh, thanks.” Draco mumbled to himself and watched you fly away, he quickly realized he had to fly back down in order to actually win.
As he flew down holding the Snitch the crowd cheered, it was one of the fastest wins in Hogwarts history!
You felt accomplished with yourself, you finally did something that made him smile, well at least you assumed. He looked more confused when you last saw him as you flew away.
As you laid in bed later that night a giant smile on your face satisfied with today’s events you still felt compelled to write him a letter, obviously your charm worked well since he hadn’t found out who you were yet.
You grabbed the light blue paper and slowly started to write. ‘First of all I told you I wasn’t lying when I said I wanted nothing from you, I just wanted to help you and I hope today was proof enough. Secondly I’m well aware my song drives people mad, did you not notice I haven’t ever made a noise? Anyways, Good Game today.’ You felt that was a good summary to help explain his worries from earlier that day.
Draco was also sat in his bed, after a few hours of celebrating of course, he had the old letter in his hands reading it over and over again.
He hoped you weren’t someone like a Weasley, he hated it but he felt himself starting to trust you he felt a connection or almost a pull towards you. He looked forward to possibly receiving another letter in the morning from you, that was the last thing on his mind until he closed his eyes to sleep.
Draco only wished he knew who you were, it would make this so much easier. He shot back up and practically jumped out of bed startling Blaise who was sat studying in his bed.
“Blaise do you remember the spell to turn an Animagus back to their Human form?” He practically yelled, and Blaise just smirked he knew exactly the spell Draco was asking about.
