I'm super excited to do the OWLs Readathon!
So basically, you choose a career that gives you the classes you need to study and then each class has a prompt for a book.
I chose Writer, so I need to study History of Magic (a book ft. wizards) with Monstrous. Muggle Studies (a contemporary) with Because of Winn Dixie. And Astronomy (a book to read at night) with The Fog Diver.
But I also want to be a Trader in Magical Tomes which means I need to study Ancient Runes (a book with a heart on the cover) with Damsel. Charms (a book with a white cover and I'm cheating here cause mine is blue) with Your Robot Dog Will Die. History of Magic again. And Transfiguration (a book ft. shapeshifting) with Ravenous.
Since I had no idea this existed and I'm starting mid April, I'll give myself until mid May to complete.

I’ve had little down time to read or write or even teach my own son to help him stay caught up on his schoolwork since staying at home. . My husband and I did spend three days last weekend completely organizing our house-- a task we’d put off for years. I’m so glad we finally tackled some hug projects. . But other than that, teaching from home is a lot of work and I’m usually up by 6 or 6:30 finalizing my lessons for the day and work off and on until 7 or 8 at night. I take breaks to feed people and put laundry away and take the dog for a five minute walk here and there. . I’ve been so exhausted that I’ve been crashing a day a week, completely sitting around or napping the whole day without energy to do much at all. . I spent one full Sunday reading this book, a book my friend picked out for a March and then April and now not at all book club. 😟 But It was a read I enjoyed very much, especially since Emilie Richards was an old favorite author of mine. . I read an additional 42 pages of The Shining. That’s a total of 126 pages today!
There’s still 30 minutes left of #aprilread4aday, but I am now catching myself falling asleep. Though I did not read much, I’m happy I got to participate! Thank you to @books-and-cookies for organizing the readathon!
Talk, Read, and Write With Me!

Each week I send my students home with a book in a little red bag. The activity is called Talk, Read and Write with Me, and the kids love it! In their red bag, each student receives a book, a dry erase board and marker, crayons, and a journal. They take their bags home and family members are instructed to read the book to the student 3-5 times in the week, ask questions, and listen to the students thoughts. After one week, the student returns the red bag to switch out the book and the journal, which hopefully has a new entry. Journaling enriches the reading experience as each child gets the opportunity to draw or reflect on the story they heard.
I began this endeavor with just a few of my students, and it was immediately successful. The kids were so excited to have something to do when they got home, each bag with their own name written on it. The bag belongs to them, and they love it. As a result of their enthusiasm, the parents have effectively been given an opportunity to engage in literacy related activities at home! Each time they bring their bags back to school, I make a note if the journal has a new entry before sending them home with a new book.
At first some of the parents were hesitant, wondering if time would allow for an activity like this. Almost all of my students have returned to school with their red bags, and that makes me very happy. The parents seem to be excited too! I’ve even had some families return the bag 2 times in the same week. A little while ago, one of my kiddos walked into the classroom crying. He was devastated. “What’s the matter, buddy?” I asked him. “I left my red bag at home,” he muttered. He was so anxious to start another book. Of course I put a new book in his regular backpack (which they all call their packpacks), and his mother thanked me. She promised she would return the bag the next day.
Another student returned Sheep in a Jeep in his bag one day, and inside I found his journal. He had drawn a picture of the jeep, and underneath were the letters C-A-R. This was a truly wonderful sight. Talk, Read and Write with Me! is a great way to get my students excited about reading and to bring literacy into their homes.
