ok unpopular opinion but is it valid to be annoyed by the way laing writes
I love the way he talks!! But he *writes* like he's trying to fill up the assigned word count
like just now I read "the general nexus of organic changes that must necessarily be going on as a conditio sine qua non of his verbalization" like girl you just said the same thing twice 😭😭😭
"The statesmen of the world who boast and threaten that they have Doomsday weapons are far more dangerous, and far more estranged from 'reality' than many of the people on whom the label 'psychotic' is affixed." - R.D. Laing, 1965
1965 and yet still so prevalent
In case this resource is helpful for anyone, this snippet is from page 84 of: Treatment of schizoid personality: An analytic psychotherapy handbook
It's quite comprehensive, explains a lot of concepts + the felt experience of those struggling with Schizoid PD, has many examples of cases, many quotes from psychological literature on schizoid pd spanning many years and writers. I first found it years back and it helped a lot in becoming more aware of how my mind works but it didn't occur to me that it might be good to share until now.
It goes over challenges in treatment on both the therapist's and patient's ends (transference and countertransference), therapists have to be aware of these or else it becomes very likely that therapy will not work, at baseline therapy is challenging for both the patient and therapist because the entire Schizoid structure is about disengaging, the opposite of what the disorders that therapy is most effective for.
If any therapists happen to see this and you truly want to help even your harder to reach patients, please consider reading through, you never know when you might come across a patient who holds schizoid adaptations, you often can't tell at all, and a different approach can make a huge huge difference.
Also Elinor Greenberg's work, and even just the videos she's featured in and her articles, might hold insight.
IT HAPPENED
Mad to be Normal's DVD finally reached me... Though it seems the Thirfted version I managed to get was from a library, hence, the cover is wonky. But I'll just print another one.
Also, something that's absolutely amazing and didn't expect, the disc is Region 0, when I expected it to be Region 1! Which is a relief, since I'm region 2.
Anyway, I'm so so glad that I managed to get it, since it had been the "rarer one". There are others though, and I'll get them!

Please help out a DT fan...? 🥹 If anyone has news on where the "Mad to be Normal" DVD is available, please let me know! It was once available on eBay but not anymore, and I can't find it anywhere else :( I was supposed to get it next month, naively thinking it'll still be sold but... I should have known better, that DVD seems rare.
Hence, if anyone sees it selling again, or has a spare copy... Please let me know! Lots of love, everyone 🤍💋
