A very interesting movie that's almost totally out of my comfort zone. But it's well put together, and a sort of hard watch in places, not even because of the gay sex scenes, but rather the difficult dynamic that's building and then near the end.
There's a death that's very difficult and echoed my own life's cancer/death situation. I can see how the pain would break anyone psychologically to do what that character did considering where his life was in many aspects.
Alexander Skarsgard is always a very intelligent actor. He's not afraid to take and play a role that's far out from his personal life and his world. It's honestly a beautiful and difficult role and character and story.
Harry Melling has moved a galaxy beyond his role in Harry Potter. Based on the few movies I've seen of him since. They're REAL acting roles.
I find, as straight person, there's many hard painful stories told by gay and other LGBTQ+ people that are heartbreaking. And these stories can apply to any kind of people's relationships, sexualities, and genders. But I'm afraid there's rarely fairytale beginning for LGBTQ people relationships. I hope ALL YOUR stories end in a loving fairytale.
PILLION is a movie that makes me feel kinder to people that are different to my life. Not to judge too harshly, but just shake hands. Like we're supposed to.

Mini-review:
I had high expectations for this due to the cast and creative team, and while it's certainly not perfect, it did not disappoint. I really love its dark sense of humor, although it does get a tad too dark in certain jokes. The main character may not be the most likable person, but Stephanie Hsu's endless charisma and comedic timing make her supremely watchable. The rest of the cast is more than up to the task, too. The most confounding thing for me is the show's puzzling message; sometimes it feels like it's slut-shaming the main character, while at other points it exalts sexual freedom. Anyway, I definitely enjoyed Laid enough to want a second season, especially after that cliffhanger.
