so about rashi
there are three things worth noting about rashi:
it's thought his daughters were fairly educated to the point that there's an urban legend about someone saying the reason it's ok to wear tefillin is that rashi's daughters wore tefillin
at the time of course it was not socially acceptable for women to put their names on things
rashi got an INSANE (like, physically impossible, someone's done the calculations) amount done
so we have a guy who does a ridiculous amount and his daughters who were allegedly very smart but couldn't have published at the time.
conclusion: maybe rashi's stuff was actually a joint rashi + daughters project he couldn't put their names on?
In honor of Leonard Nimoy’s 93rd birthday, I’d like to shine a light on a couple of his lesser known roles: those of Rashi and Maimonides, two great Rabbis in Jewish history.
Nimoy hugely influenced me not only by his portrayal of Spock, but through the ways he showed the world his Judaism without fear, and with nothing but love and pride.
Happy heavenly birthday, Mr. Nimoy. May your memory be a blessing. 🖖🏻
@snissel613 I asked a teacher of mine why Hashem is sometimes referred to in plural as Elohim and she said “let me check what Rashi says” *queue page rustling* “ok he said it’s so stupid people people will ask why it’s plural and be forced to think about g*d”
I just thought from your posts that you might find that funny
What determines luck?
According to the Talmudic Mishna, it's is a result of tiny beings in our cells called "Mazel-chrolrians" that secrete a force that determines luck. The earliest Amoraim of the Gemara have no comments, but later generations including Rabbi Abbahu felt this was an unnecessary addition to the Hebrew Canon, stating that the mysteries of Hashem are not for us to know and that this only weakened the Torah by attempting to make it "Hard Sci-Fi" at the cost of the Jewish fandom.
Rashi expands on this to state, "Always two there are, a Schlemiel and a Schlimazel. But which is the Schlemiel... And which is the Schlimazel?"

WALKING THROUGH THE LABYRINTHS OF SHATABHISHA ⭕
*CORRECTION: Mia Goth has Shatabhisha Moon
Tonight, after an extended discussion of the description of angels in Ezekiel (it got pretty sci-fi ngl), I introduced the goyfriend to assorted Jewish sages. Upon learning that Rashi had produced commentary for the whole Tanakh and Talmud, he pronounced Rashi "a gigachad" and "my Shlomie." Further description of the House of Hillel and the House of Shammai led to the dubbing of Hillel as "Chillel." He also wants to know why "melech" and "mal'ach" have the same root (this frustrated him intensely).
"You are no lesser than Rashi's daughters"
- My rabbi this evening during class, on why he encourages the women in his conversion classes to wear kippot and (after finishing their conversion) tallis at shul. Suggested as a response to people saying women can't take on any given mitzvah.
He was talking about Rashi and how he encouraged his daughters to take on "men's" mitzvot, such as wrapping tefilin and praying three times a day.
