Bill Denbrough

1. IT 2017 (Jaeden Martell)

This is arguably the one I feel most passionate about. Jaeden is everything I love about book Bill and then some.

The emotions he can portray on his face without saying any words half of the time is astonishing. A scene that will always stick out to me is when he sees Pennywise for the first time in the cellar. His emotions from the time he wakes up to water dripping on his face, through going to Georgie’s room and feeling deep mourning, and then to the fear he feels as he walks down to the basement, and even the mix of horror but partial happiness he feels when he first sees Georgie is expressed without him even having to say anything.

Another moment where Jaeden’s acting stands out to me is when he gives his speech before going into Neibolt. You can FEEL every emotion he is putting out there and it always gives me chills. One of the things I don’t like about each of the film adaptations is that we don’t get the losers’ inner monologue (something that isn’t really the fault of anyone since it would be weird to have random voice overs). BUT when Bill is giving his speech you can understand how his emotions of loss, mourning, selfblame, and despair have bubbled up into something that the book calls ‘a child lead to madness’ (may not be the direct quote i’m not pulling my book out rn).

All of this is not even mentioning the way each of his actions are just SO BILL. I can’t even really describe it but to me every part of his performance embodies Bill. From when he is walking next to Silver and saying “He thrusts his fists against the post and still insists he sees the ghosts”, to him simply riding Silver, and then their little moment in the drug store.

All of it perfectly embodies Bill and makes me love this character even more than the book did.

2. Novel 1958 (child)

I love Bill in the book. His descriptions of how he feels that everything that happened with Georgie is his fault and how he feels that his parents are right to ‘not love him anymore’ is so incredibly heart breaking. The book does a fantastic job of showing the way that trauma can affect a child especially when the source of that trauma is pushed aside and they are told to basically act like it didn’t happen and to keep moving forward.

I love how he plays the leader role, how he is willing to do anything for his friends. How he feels responsible for them and making sure they stay safe.

I also love his nonchalant-ness, if that makes sense. He is also a big daydreamer and I love the way his brain works.

Overall I just love the way he is written.

3. Miniseries 1990 adult (Richard Thomas)

This version of Bill was extremely close to being my second favorite. I know it’s an unpopular opinion but I LOVE THE MINISERIES.

Richard Thomas’s Bill is everything I wanted adult Bill to be in the book/chapter 2.

He naturally takes on his leader role, but isn’t cocky about it. He is also just a silly goofy guy, but his trauma and fear is still there.

Also he doesn’t cheat on his wife which is great lmao.

(also special shout out to the scene of Mike and Bill riding Silver)

4. Miniseries 1960, child (Jonathan Bradis)

Honestly, I don’t have a whole lot of opinions on him. I feel like he is very similar to book bill. The only reason he ranks higher than adult book Bill is the fact that he is less sexist lmao.

5. Novel Bill 1985 (adult)

I don’t HATE adult Bill in the novel. I also don’t LOVE him though.

There are parts of him that are great. I love his goofiness BUT I hate his sexism and the fact that he cheated on his wife obviously.

6. Chapter 2, 2019 Bill (James McAvoy)

I hate this bitch. He ruined the movie for me. James McAvoy does not know how to act. His stutter sounds like he is gonna vomit, his constant “woah woahs” sounds so fucking stupid, and he talks incredibly fast compared to any of the other Bill’s which completely contradicts the book.

The writing for him is awful. He is too cocky and it’s fucking annoying. Also what is that scene with Audra in the beginning?? like wtf was that!?

My friends and I have an inside joke that this dude kidnapped Bill and is just pretending to be him and it’s the only thing that makes him bearable.

Also not to mention that he kinda caused Dean’s death so….

RANKING GC CHARACTERS BASED HOW SAFE I'D FEEL IN A CAR WITH THEM DRIVING

im going to ignore that none of them know what the fuck a car is for the purpose of this

Andrey: 5/10. Not because I think he'd necessarily be a bad driver, I'd just feel lowkey unsafe in any situation with him. Man definitely has quiet road rage in which he gets increasingly scarier to even look at despite not even saying anything

Natasha: 5/10. Probably not a very good driver, but she won't kill you. Maybe you'll get pulled over or nearly rear-end someone just a little bit, but so far she hasn't done any actual damage. Her car is probably bougie af tho so at least you'll be ridin in style. Probably cant park for shit

Sonya: 10/10. Sonya's gotta be a pretty good driver. Stops at stop signs even when there's nobody around for miles. Will stop if she sees an animal waiting to cross the road.

Marya: 7/10. Average driver, but she has so much road rage that sometimes you think she might actually hit somebody just to spite them. She won't, but she thinks about it. Your ears will be ringing after how many times she honks.

Anatole: 2/10. Do not let him near anything that can do any damage. Does Anatole LOOK like somebody who got his driver's license to you?? The only reason I'm not giving him a 1/10 is because he doesn't drive (rich boy) and therefore isn't an actual threat to anybody's life

Helene: 3/10. Is capable of driving well, but refuses to go underneath sonic the hedgehog levels of speed. She PROBABLY won't crash into something too extreme, but she really does like the thrill of literally almost dying. Will call you a nerd if you ask her to slow down. Only slows down when cops are near.

Dolokhov: 6/10. Depends on what mood he's in. Sometimes he can be a little shit and go speed demon, but most of the time he's pretty okay. You won't die.

OPB: -20/10. This man can barely see. There's a 90% chance he'll just straight up fucking die at the wheel or run you off the road just because.

Mary: 7/10. Very dependable driver, but also very anxious. Only drives when she needs to, and when she does it's with the upmost care. You're gonna have to be quiet though, she's concentrating.

Balaga: 0/10. There's an entire song about this. He's already THAT BAD at 12 miles an hour with horses. Imagine him with a car. There would be absolutely no survivors.

11. Chris Hackett

• I’ll be forever mad at the fact that all of this would be avoided if he just talked to the counselors. Which ultimately brings me to the Controversial Hill Of An Opinion that I will DIE on: The fact that all of this happened is Chris’ fault, not Jacob’s. Considering that Jacob ruined the van with a more of an innocent intention to stay just another night, while Chris refused to give them an explanation that made sense and recklessly took off, thinking bunch of teens alone in a camp would actually take his advice and stay in. LOL

10. Abigail

• I can find at least 3 vague similarities between us, but I don’t like how the creators overdid the “socially awkward quirky” personality of hers in the game. The way she struggles to choose someone to dare in the game for 3 minutes, never takes compliments, and is sliiightly a coward ticks all my instant dislike checkboxes. However, I seem to LOVE the way she’s portrayed in fics! So much sweeter, bold and fun.

9. Kaitlyn

Kaitlyn’s a badass and i still like her a lot, but i’m afraid to admit that the love i have for her stemmed from her and Dylan’s friendship sequences where she’s being genuine. I just don’t get along with people who speak and act with massive sarcastic undertones at all times, therefore i feel like she often outdoes the facade she constantly plays of “The Boss Of The Group” which makes her less authentic for me. I often can’t take her seriously even though she’s supposed to be a fan favorite. Other than that, love her bravery, courage and protectiveness.

8. Laura

Honestly I don’t have strong opinions about her other than how badly she handles situations that would undoubtedly bring her towards ultimate doom. Like how she goes to investigate a forest after potentially running into (and over) a strange scary looking blob of a body and how she insists that someone in that basement needed help without staying for a second to look further or listen closely. Plot armor, i get it, but still! She’s a sweetie otherwise tho.

7. Emma

Very iconic, very relatable (especially referring to her interpretation of “faking it”, i feel like that whole conversation gave her so much more depth.), i just do not feel comfortable at all with how ruthless she gets with people. I understand being annoyed with Jacob, but the lines she throws at him for someone who’s just a softie that’s hung up on her are worryingly mean; I also don’t think she kissed Nick in order to “help him and abi out” but, eh. Love her apart from all that.

6. Jacob

He’s a dumbass. I believe he is quite literally THAT childish and silly, also almost the one that never had vile intentions and spent the entire game trying to save his friends (Abi, Emma) before he got caught with wolfie nick. I know if only he’d known this would have happened, he’d drop the idea and think of other alternatives to bother Emma, bahaha

5. Nick

My man dies when he’s supposed to die in-game. There is no more Nick after he turns into a werewolf, which is a pity, considering that there was quite a bit to unpack. Starting from his australian accent.

4. Ryan

Don’t like how bland and dry he gets at times. Yes, i’m talking about the man that answers back with “smOoOoOth” to Dylan’s pick-up lines TWICE. LMAO. I’m also forever bitter about the fact that he tells Laura that he doesn’t really like Kaitlyn or Dylan more while being clearly interested, what was that about??

Man, i still love this boy, but does he make me mad from time to time😭 Obviously he holds a special place in my heart, but I wish he’d been more gentle with Dylan. I suppose we’re asking for too much here

3. Travis

Poor man is just trying his best. I might be just a TINY bit biased because of Ted Raimi’s BAFFLING performance, but i think Travis is just iconic, start to finish.

2. Max

One of the funniest characters hands down. I admire how patient and respectful he is to Laura throughout the game, he’s genuinely funny and cares for her a whole lot; doesn’t give up easily and doesn’t guilt trip her once for the mess they got into. Idk i adore him.

1. DYLAN

Love love love LOVE love LOVE HIM. Funny and charismatic, easy to get along with, friendly with a bit of sass and FIERCELY protective of his friends (just observe the amount of times he puts himself in front of Kaitlyn to protect her). Doesn’t bother anyone with whatever he’s dealing with, has interesting hobbies and is absolutely wiser than he seems at first glance. Honestly i can’t find one thing wrong with him; I’ll go as far as to say that he’s one of the best written characters in Videogame history to me. Very good boy.
