रानीखेत का नंदा देवी महोत्सव भी अब बड़े स्तर पर मनाया जाता है। कभी बलि प्रथा के रूप में प्रचलित रहे इस मेले का मुख्य आकर्षण अब खेल और सांस्कृतिक प्रतियोगिताएं हैं। चार दिवसीय इस आयोजन में महिलाओं और बच्चों के बीच तमाम स्पर्धाएं होती हैं। लोगों की मां नंदा में अपार श्रद्धा है। मनौती पूरी होने पर अब लोग मां को नारियल चढ़ा देते हैं। बता दें कि यहां 1890 में मां नंदा देवी मंदिर की स्थापना हुई थी, तब यहां मनौती पूरी होने पर लोग भैंसे की बलि देते थे। 1935 में यहां बलि प्रथा पूरी तरह से बंद हो चुकी है। स्थापना काल से ही मंदिर में मां नंदा सुनंदा का भव्य मेला आयोजित होता था, लोग मनौती पूरी होने पर भैंसे की बलि देते थे। 45 साल बाद आर्य समाज से जुड़ी सल्ट के कफल्टा गांव निवासी स्व. आनंदी माई ने बलि प्रथा का पुरजोर विरोध किया। बलि प्रथा को रोकने के लिए उन्होंने लंबा संघर्ष किया। बताते हैं कि एक बार जब भैंसे की बलि दी जा रही थी तो आनंदी माई ने भैंसे के आगे अपनी गर्दन रख दी थी, इसके बाद लोगों ने आपसी राय मशविरे के बाद यहां बलि प्रथा को पूरी तरह से बंद कर दिया। . 💫Vivid⚡️✨Uttarakhand✨ . 📸 @vivid_uttarakhand .
