An element of Hitchhiker's Guide that I've always loved is that the Earth never stops being important. Even when it's been destroyed, even when the prologue goes out of its way to emphasise its insignificance. It's Deep Thought's supercomputer for finding the Question, it's where Arthur and Ford end up in prehistoric times, it's where most of So Long and Thanks for all the Fish happens, it's where [spoilers] all the characters (minus Zaphod) are killed at the end of Mostly Harmless.
Arthur, Trillian, and Random all long to go back there in varying degrees. Even Ford, who cannot stop calling the place a dump, goes back just to retrieve some of his favourite bits of Earth culture (movies and a lot of beer).
Maybe it's down to the fact that it's easier to write about the Earth than it is anywhere else, but I do appreciate that for a series predicated on Earth being gone it really does care about the Earth a whole lot. Even though I am ambivalent about how it ends, there is something I like about how it is when every version of the Earth is wiped out completely that the story ends.

random looks more like trillian than arthur (she has arthur's nose though), but her mannerisms are uncannily similar to his. especially her eyeroll. they have identical sass. after ford shows up, he says something ridiculous that manages to make both of them roll their eyes at the same time and it is so genuinely scary. suddenly, ford is seeing double, and double is really, excessively annoyed at him
in a desperate attempt to find any content with random that i hadn't seen yet i stumbled upon this cool account on x which posts covers for adaptations and translations of h2g2! and as soon as i came across the first illustration with random i decided to comb through the entire account (as far as possible) to try to find as many illustrations with her as i can! sharing everything i could find in this post (very unlikely it's actually her on the last picture but the caption under the post said it's a cover for mostly harmless and this character has that thingie on the wrist as random has so just in case let it be here too)
