It’s game night on the Heart of Gold and Arthur is off pouting because Zaphod and Ford cheat and Random and Trillian kick everyone’s asses.

I like to think that sometimes Arthur flies specifically just to hover in place and hide from his nightmare family.

Arthur likes puzzles. Idk where I got that idea from but for some reason I feel that very strongly and no one will be able to change my mind on it.

Imagine she didn’t run away guys. Ford is her uncle and also sort of a third dad. Basically she was raised by the entire cast except for Marvin because Marvin got ditched with Krikkit. L.

Also yes I hc that Random grew up partially with Zaphod as a sort of unstable but goofy father figure at least when she was younger because she fucking talks like him. Like he would get her ice cream and then they’d get chased out of the store because he insulted someone to their face and then she would cry and then he would buy her ice cream again and set off fireworks and then tell her not to tell her mom about any of that because “that was a zarking disaster. Oh fucking Belgium please don’t say zarking.”

There’s a great throughline theme of preservation in the later books, especially in So Long And Thanks (coinciding with Douglas Adams being a huge advocate for preserving endangered species later in his career/procrastination), and when Random asks Arthur about the Earth, he’s more than happy to share because this is the life he wants nothing more than to talk about. He wants to share the things he loves and the things he took for granted. Something as infinitesimal and mundane as a digital watch is still a complicated piece of technology, and it’s what inspires Random to learn more about this entire planetary culture she never got the chance to grow up in.
