Just putting this. Somewhere.
I keep experiencing this cycle where I talk to a guy I really like on a dating app, we meet up for a date, we kiss after one or two dates, I’m interested for a bit, and then my interest just.... fades. I’m starting to think dating apps fundamentally don’t and will never work for me.
The only time I’ve ever been in love, he was my best friend for a whole year before we figured out we were mutually head over heels, and it was the most electric thing I ever felt. I had been through the pining, through the process of learning him and him learning me, I knew him so well and I had wanted him so badly for so long that the resolution of that pining was the greatest joy I have ever known. Dating apps are the exact opposite - you meet the person on the presumption that romance is the goal. It’s not for me - I want a friendship FIRST, and only once that exists will I ever be able to feel passion.
I’m sure love at first sight exists for some people, but it doesn’t for me. And I’m finding in adult life (especially 30+) it’s incredibly hard to find situations where you just get to be around a guy platonically for a long time so you can build up that kind of energy before doing anything about it. I want a real life slow burn, dammit!
Guess I’ll just be single forever. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The difference from 10 years ago is that saying that sentence doesn’t fill me with dread. I’ve made a very happy life for myself and my cats. I’m okay if it stays that way.
