Sometimes I think about how Eivor spends so much time traveling England, she probably spoke English (old english) most of the time.
But I like to imagine when she comes home to Ravensthorpe, even as the merchants and travelers slowly bring English further and further into her home, she finds Randvi in her war room in the longhouse. And I like to think she gives her reports in English, it's easier that way and Randvi understands it just fine.
And i imagine Eivor doesn't realize how much she misses the syllables of her mother tongue as it slowly disappears until she's in their bed chambers and Randvi helps her undress and bandage her wounds, rubbing salves across her bruises and whispering soft, lovely things in Norse.
Maybe Randvi recites poems that Eivor taught her as she cares for her. And slowly, Eivor associates her mother tongue less and less with boisterous stories and sagas, or curses spat on the battlefield, or even just chattering along the docks and markets. Instead it is replaced with the soothing voice of her lover, and the love songs she hadn't heard since her own parents sang them to each other.

Absolutely gobsmacked by the note on Randvi's desk talking about how she can't keep looking at Eivor across the table and wondering about what her life could be instead. Like I got back into Valhalla specifically to be a homewrecker but damn girl, you just leave stuff like that lying around the longhouse??
