π positivity: mel, dare i say, like curing someone of their allergy by continuously exposing them to small doses of that allergy, you have made purple prose more than tolerable to me. i wouldn't necessarily call your writing purple prose. but it's adjacent in it's bouquet-like craft of words. and i find it very charming and distinctly you. there's no mistaking your writing for anyone else's. unrelated, your linked underlines are an iconic influence.
no one talk to me @eyeshone is attacking my heart rn
risking it ( sounding pretentious ): if you ever wondered why mel writes like that ...
when i started writing i wrote lyrics and when i looked for advice to write non-lyrics one of the first things i stumbled upon was how you should create music. essentially, structuring your sentence/paragraph/page/chapter to make it sing. like ... how to manipulate the reader through the lengths of your sentences. you can add tension by writing a long sentence and than pop it by immediately adding something short. or continuously write sentences of the same length to drag the reader along. i've applied that idea to other ways i write too, like how i don't do replies in one big block, i space it out ... like having a single sentence be alone.
i really don't know what is or isn't purple pose but it's my understanding it's just flowery words for the sake of it? often to the point that it's not understandable. i'd like to think everything i do has meaning ( sometimes double/multi entendres ). i foam at the mouth for metaphors and all things adjacent. i want to provoke whoever's reading to feel something ... emotion and sense-wise. but i don't want it to be unreadable. at the very least let it be an easy enough google search to get the reference.
maybe that's why you feel cured of it? idk. but thank you for this. it was very sweet ... very needed. although i'm in the process of descending off the "is my writing even good anymore???" plateau, this was a lovely little balm to my recovery. also, your writing is absolutely lovely too. my only compliant is i don't get enough of it. ily muches and bunches. <3 <3 <3
