Blue and White

I ran out of the clinic room, leaving the blue uniformed staff nurse sprawling in my wake. I laughed out loud, slightly insanely, as I heard her call after me, frustrated tearfulness in her voice, “Stop, thief!” I glanced down at my bag filled with plundered drugs, grinning with satisfaction until suddenly I bundled into another woman, standing in my way on the corridor. Evidently “heading me off”, she seized my wrists and I dropped the bag - the bespectacled white uniformed nurse was surprisingly strong. “Oh know you don’t, creep!” she told me firmly. Having evaded capture by one woman, I wasn’t about to succumb to a second and I struggled fiercely, even prepared to leave the drugs, so anxious was I to get away. I was on the verge of hurling her to one side when the clattering flat shoe footsteps of my earlier female nemesis grew louder. “Hold onto him, Claire!” urged the blue clad nurse. Claire did indeed and once joined by her friend, my willpower vanished and I gave up struggling. I glowered as Claire put me in a double armlock and the other nurse checked my bag. “I think they’re all here,” she said, “but let’s get him back to the office and tie him up. Then we can search him properly.” I rolled my eyes at this but soon found myself propelled forward by Claire, dragging my feet, but unable to resist.

Yeah, that's my face. And yeah, I might be a bit late -for my timezone- to celebrate Women's Day, but if it weren't for Marie Curie (and Röntgen, but that's not my point?) I wouldn't have studied my degree and discovered one of my passions in medicine. Thanks to her, I wouldn't be who I am today. And thanks to her, we know a bit (way) more of our world that wouldn't have been possible if she hadn't fought against the many obstacles she surely encountered during her career and life (because lets be honest, her husband was her assistant, and nobody's gonna tell me otherwise!).

And like her, I wouldn't be were I am without the other many women that came before me and fought for our rights, no matter if they taught, cooked, healed a wound or launched a rocket.
