Radfoxes are the descendants of the pre-war red fox (Vulpes vulpes) that have mutated over the years due to exposure to radiation and nuclear fallout. Like their pre-war cousins, they retain their intelligence and cunning and are often seen around human settlements, especially large ones such as the Trafford Hub (New Manchester). They are solitary hunters and opportunistic feeders, able to consume a wide variety of plants and animals.

Like cats, radfoxes use their tails as balance and they can also use it to communicate with other foxes.

Humans have often tamed radfoxes and trained them for pest control around settlements. As with pre-war zoos, radfoxes trained and raised in captivity often outlive their wild counterparts.

Appearance:

Radfoxes look very much like the pre-war red fox, apart from being somewhat larger and with a less distinctive red colouration to the fur. The degree of mutation varies wildly in radfoxes, with some just looking like larger, paler red foxes while others have multiple extraneous limbs. An extra leg or paw is very common, but occasionally extra heads and double tails can be seen. Some radfoxes have been seen with two heads, two tails and six legs, though such a striking mutation is very rare.

Breeding:

Radfox pairs mate in winter, as pre-war red foxes did. The vixen gives birth to a litter of around 4-8 pups. Radfox pups are considerably bigger than pre-war fox pups, and are often grey or brown in colour rather than pale red. Both parents care for the pups until the autumn when they are able to fend for themselves.
