Speaking of needing multiple crafting projects on the go . . . I have become distracted from the big paper piecing quilt.
Was unfortunately not up to a particularly portable stage with the big one by the time I had a weekend away so impulse bought a stack of fabric in the colours of the sports team I was playing for. It was really just because there was a sale on and to be a time killer but thanks to harebrained ideas from teammates and my own natural affinity for impulsive project management I will now be making a reversible quilted jacket.
Currently puzzling over the fact that since both sides of the jacket will be this random diamond pattern do I need to have a layer in there which will have a one way grain for structure? Or once it's quilted will it already be stable against stretching weirdly? Further to that, how thick and warm can I make it? My favourite jacket all winter has been fleece lined heavy workwear. I know I probably can match that comforting weight and warmth but that is the dream.
And in justifying the sudden segue to a new project this will give me a chance to practice all the skills I need for the big quilt on a more controlled scale!! So honestly it is the sensible thing to do.
