A little drama in monochrome

This 1993 Vogue Paris editorial by Ellen von Unwerth has the feeling of a half-remembered scene from a 1930s jazz club: mirrored poses, soft gowns, dark lips and a room full of old-world tension. Shalom Harlow appears in John Galliano, but the real pull of the image is the atmosphere—vintage glamour with something slightly theatrical and queer-coded beneath the surface. The two figures feel less like a literal couple and more like a fashion fantasy of intimacy, performance and elegant trouble.

Since our last update on Monday only $202 has been donated, and only 1 person has signed up to be a recurring donor. That leaves us $12300 short for the rest of 2024 and $55K short per year from 2025 onwards unless way more people pitch in! If we can’t raise the funds we need to, we will expect job losses, service cutbacks, loads of unpaid overtime for some of our director team, fundraising hell, reduced/no stipends for our amazing volunteers, reduced budget to pay our fantastic writers, and lots of staff & volunteer burn-out! Please help us close this funding gap so that we can go back to providing our world-leading information & support across all our articles, advice columns, message boards and text/sms & chat services - all with some semblance of humane working conditions!!
