I HAVE WRITTEN ANOTHER VAMPIRE BOOK IN SECRET

And by "written" I mean I've got about 50-75% of a first draft done and my momentum hasn't died yet, so I feel safe to start actually talking about this one. After like 2 years without finishing a major project, it was beginning to feel like maybe I'd lost my sparkle. Enter - 1980s goth vampire and new love of my life, Pete, and his human roommate Valentine Delgado. The idea occurred to me on a long drive on back roads while I was listening to my 80s new wave/post punk playlist, and thinking about vampires, as I often do. Somewhere in there, something started simmering and by the end of my weekend I was left with a very potent concept: Trans man buys a historic house and accidentally wakes up the vampire who's been hibernating in the basement for the past 40 years.

That happened in late April. By the same time in May, I had written 50,000 words and illustrated a full cover. I still didn't feel safe to announce it, because I've announced a few projects since 2023 and none of them have actually Happened yet, but this one has stuck. I can tell you this is a very special little book, to me. It draws on some of my favorite horror comedies (What We Do in the Shadows, Lisa Frankenstein, Your Monster) as well as my enduring love for the intersection between queer and alternative subcultures.

With the pace I'm going at now I feel confident in saying this book, titled BE MY RENFIELD, will come out fall of this year (2026)! Until then, I can't wait to share all the art I've got of the characters that I've been patiently waiting to post until I felt like I was really, truly ready.

okay tumblr, a cool thirteen years ago (side note: jesus christ), i posted this post. i know many of you have seen this post, because periodically to this day it takes off again and renders my notifications unusable. in fact, by linking it here, i know i bring this doom upon myself again. i'm fine with this; i will never take this post down. it serves a public good: allowing the public to experience the fictional band powerline's defining song from seminal classic 'The Goofy Movie.' the power of this song is beyond explanation, but the fact remains that it slaps even now.

however, i must ask you a favor here thirteen years (by talos this can't be happening) in the future. it is a favor that the me who posted that post could never have dreamed of! here it goes: if you have ever played that song on that post, and if you have enjoyed it, i would be thrilled if you would consider listening to the above audiobook sample from my new novel, Recipe for Trouble. the narrator, jordy evan hope, is a wonderful actor who gives a delightful performance! the book is full of jokes and food and heart and queer joy! also this clip is only half the length of the song, so if you DON'T like it, you can just listen to the song and still end up with a net improvement to your day.
